Top five fuel-saving technologies:

#5: Multistage oil pump, 1% fuel savings. Only pumps as much oil as the engine needs

#4: Continuously-variable transmissions and dual-clutch transmissions, 6-7% fuel savings.

#3: Active cylinder management, about 7.5% improvement in miles per gallon.

#2: Brake regenerations, 8% fuel savings. Recharges battery when car is braking or coasting, instead of using the alternator.

and......

#1: Clean diesel, producing a savings of 30-35%.

No comments? I thought an analysis from a site without bias for or against diesels might be intriguing.

They are all happening now in stages, and will continue to be more common as new models are rolled out in the next 10 years.
