I just bought a 2003 Tdi and drove it maybe 15mi and there was smoke from the transmition and the tranny won't engage the gears. The dealer said they replaced the clutch. Can a clutch fry in as short as 15mi?? And do you guys know a good tdi mechanic open on saturdays in the Washington DC area?

Help is much appreciated

I'm not a clutch expert - so no advice there.

Regarding mechanic, it might be worth trying sending a private message to Car 54, who is the concensus guru in the DC area. His shop is in Woodbridge VA, about 20 mins south of DC.

Thanks blue hen but i would i just sent him a pm and i would really like to hear the oppinion of a clutch expert. for those familiar with the DC area I drove from Veina, VA to Crystal City, VA and no smell no smoke until I let someone else drive for not even 1 mile. I will not claim that I can drive a stick well but I didn't think I could burnout a clutch within that distance/time

Either the rear main is bad or they didn't install the throw out bearing right.
