After a tune my current smf clutch started to slip. Around 25000 miles later I got the ambition to replace with a new one.
So first clutch was a sachs G60. No go. Figured dealer got bad parts and got a second one. The second is just the same. Turns out that when both current valeo and new sachs are set on a bench the pp fingers are at the exact same height. however the sachs flywheel has a recess on the back of about 0.675 inch where the valeo has a recess of just 0.125" Installed the sachs clutch will not fully release. This makes sense as the assembly sits nearly 1/2 inch closer to the motor. I am running out of throw on the slave cylinder.
I guess My question is has anyone else ran into this? Are there different crank off-sets? I cant be the only person that this has happened to. Maybe there was catastrophic engine damage before my ownership of the car that was repaired with non correct parts? But after calling valeo their part numbers all matched what I have. Car was produced late 05 and sold as a 06. tdi 1.9 5 speed.
By the way, anyone looking to do a clutch swap, its not too hard. After several r&r's to measure everything I'm getting pretty good at it. Thanks for any input
