A clunking is heard when turning the wheel toward full lock either way. It wasen't there with the old steering box. I think every bolt is tight and the fluid level is good. Anyone experience this?
I did a rack job a couple of years ago on my 2001 golf and offer the following thoughts...
Could you put it up on some ramps and have someone right and left the wheel while you inspect movement of the steering gear? Or I wonder if it might be as simple as a worn stabilizer bar bushing...
I figure you already checked the subframe and 4 rack bolts.
I have a unhappy noise. Almost sounds like a ball joint pop. It's subframe bushings. Mine are sitting on the list to be done but other things have come up. Not enough time off
