Clunk when braking

I feel a clunk in the front end while getting on the brakes. It's more pronounced when you give them a quick jab. I'm thinking strut mounts or the bearings?

On my 5th TDi - 2003 ALH 5spd Wagon
Have a friend look at your tire and wheel from beside the car when tapping the brakes. If the lower control arms are gone then you will see it move back a few inches.

Then I would jack it up and check for any play in the wheel back/forth and side/side. Then take off the wheel and check to make sure caliper bolts are tight.

Sway bar bushings!

If they have never been changed, it's most likely they are the clunkers. The other items should be checked as suggested by Bran Diezel.
