Clean Diesel DPF Data Collection Thread

My car is a 2005 Passat, 2.0 TDI
I have become very intimate with her, I have stripped her down several times, and when I'm done she still responds the same way, Emissions workshop!
I have replaced the fuel\vacuum pump
Turbo, the mass air flap,the inter cooler hose from turbo, the silver domed vacuum reservoir, all vacuum lines, the cylinder head, I have cleaner the air sensor just before the engine, and changed the oil, and even gave her a kiss.
How do I clear this Emissions workshop?
The head was the problem, two valve failures, with the new head it starts up right away, not even one turn, I have the OBDeleven, that can clear codes but how can I clear the Emissions Workshop?

You've probably not received any help in this thread since it doesn't apply to your car/engine. This thread only relates to the specific emissions issues of the 2009 common rail diesels and newer.

So I still have my 2012 tdi Passat, while I was driving back to school, it caught on fire, had the car towed to a VW dealership and this is what they found. They found a hole underneath the DPF, they are sending two engineers, one from Chattanooga and another one from Germany to determine the cause of this melt down and liability. From what they can tell so far, so much soots were in there and it got so hot, it melted a hole. Not sure how to load pictures on this yet, but will keep you all updated.

Whats with all of the oil on the bottom of the motor?
I assume thats what was on fire from the exhaust/catalyst.

On my 2012 TDI i been running Shell V-Power Diesel for a Good long while now the changes i notice now are much less regens very little (manual regens) by that i mean i dont see the yellow DPF filter light on the dash for a regen. not nearly as much as before. i run 507.. spec 5w30 Liqui Moly Top Tec Oil and its been Perfect i actually beleive that V-Power fuel has made an impact on the vehicle's DPF filter and fuel system on how well it performs. had a German tecnition tell me in his country you follow that regem & drive it hard for 45 minutes a day DPF filter will last the life of the car.!! they dont have nearly the trouble with TDI's in Germany than they do in North America. So... the key secret is to use right spec oil Quality Diesel & get to a race track & drive hard.!

If your yellow DPF light was coming on, that means there was or is an issue with the DPF. It does not indicate that the engine is running a regen. European fuel is higher cetane and lubricity, therefore, hotter and cleaner burning that the junk we get. Not only do they not have the issues with DPFs in Europe, they also see very few hpfp issues.

You might want to use "Shell V-Power Diesel" if You have it in Your part of the area? its the only diesel i run in my TDI so far since i bought my tdi almost 2 years ago i have noticed it substantially lowered the regen's time ocurance cycle considereably i dont see the (Yellow light coming on dash for a regen as often as before) car was driven under same conditions being 50 minutes to an hour of driving everyday too work. i been using this Fuel for awhile now & have noticed the last 3 regens went away shortly after driving & i notice when in regen mode. i dont have to put up anymore with the strong sulphuric smell it gives off as the DPF system heats up to clean itself out. Just passing my Data & Experience along for anyone. hope this helps.

Went out in the car tonight, 1 mile up the road in traffic noticed it was almost already up to 90C oil temp and the rev counter was going up and dwon between 750 and 1500 revs even in neutral...returned home and once switched off the fan remained on for a bit.
Suspected this was a regen...never experienced it before.
Left it 15 minutes then went for a drive, drove perfectly fine.
Back home plugged in the newly purchased VCDS...got this

Quite a bit of oil ash volume in there. This won't go away with a regen. I can't recall the limit but when it reaches that point replacement or maybe cleaning is in order. Someone will reply with the specs I am sure. How many miles on the dpf? What kind of driving do you do?

Thanks Lightflyer1...Not sure about miles on the DPF...how do you tell that?....my journeys will be about town with one 50 mile round trip each week...recently bought the car with 81K miles on it so not sure what sort of journeys the previous owners did...no issues with the car seems eager and nippy.

You are short tripping the car, which doesn't always play well with the emissions system, it sounds like. Monitoring the regens will help with this so they can happen and complete when needed. The app is great for exactly that. There are some to choose from but I use VAGDPF myself. Screen shot below.

As per my other replies to your posts, we don't have that engine on this side of the pond.
Anything we tell you will be derived off of what we know with our 2L CRs which will only be similar but not exact as your smaller engine over there.

You really need feedback from owners of the same engine who might actually know those specific limits if you want reliable data points.

Try to find what the "Particle filter ash load limit" on your car. (The wording might be different)
My Ash is at 46g with a max of 70g.

yesterday, I checked on my step daughter's 13 Jetta TDI. the soot level is like 90-95ml. not sure if thats at the max? right now tail pipe is sooty black.

Yeah Few days ago, P026A, P0299, P0401. Will scan again today due to howling sounds and buckling while cold running and stalling at stop signs/red lights. After she warms up a bit, it goes away as glow plug starts to flash. DPF and CEL is constant on.

Now I just ran DPF soot level, it says 90 ml of particle filter oil ash volume.
15g soot load calculated, soot load measured 0g.

Yep taking her in this Tuesday to Vw for warranty. I’m watching this car closely as possible. Daughter took the passat that has my obd11 plug….. for several days.
I ran the test for EGR, it showed 700 mg/Str at 1380 rpm.

Does that meant DPF and egr is full?

Your DPF is not full. EGR/cooler might not be flowing sufficiently. Post the codes with all the freeze frame data and details as they reveal a lot more than what you're saying.

Plus oil leak all over the Osiris plate. Mostly on the passenger side.

Yup... you've got issues. Take it into VW. No wonder your EGR isn't functioning properly... look at the misfires and the rest of the codes. All those will cause the whole DPF\EGR system to fail.

ahh thank you so much! Will tell them to stop driving the car. (Mother/Daughter’s car but mainly driven by daughter) what caused them to do that? She tend to idle a lot at high school and now in college. She also drives her car very hard. Yes the car is 100 percent stock.
