Additional VCDS (version 15.7.3) data points:
14.4g Soot (calc)
1.8g Soot (meas)
4 Requested Regens
21.3l Fuel consumption since last regen
340km distance since last regen
372time since last regen (minutes)

Remarks:
My P0401 (EGR insufficient flow) code/check-engine light has been on constantly for probably the last 20K miles/12 months. Soot at tail pipe. Pretty certain DPF is cracked. The emissions/dieselgate fiasco has put any alternative remedies for this on hold...

If you take the buyback, you can't strip it

Data should be current as of June 30 2016. The value under buyback is how much you can sell your entire car back to VW for. The value under modification is how much you would get if you keep your car and have VW fix it
Might be able to down grade the tires etc.

Makes 2 ****ty 09s with failed oem quality emissions equipment. None of the doors lock, only the hatch. Plugged heater core, no electric fans, plugged egr, bad wheel bearings, failed tpms sensors, gas tank flap doesn't lock, broken cruise switch, cd player won't kick out or accept cds, bad cv shafts - boots gone, pads have reshaped the rotors with grooves, broken coil springs, broken sway links, bad glow plugs, cracked dpf, puking turbo seals, left mirror heater element and rotator motor non functional....

I think I listed everything? Heated seats still work! And leather!

That's an intense list. What're you going to do? part it out? or do you dare tackle all those problems?

Interesting update.

OEM software....

Unplugging the maf it goes from 36mpg to low 50s. And the trip odometer and pencil math shows it....

Once I get a dpf light I plug back and let burn, but immediately unplug and continue. I'm making 650 miles a tank instead of 530...

Seriously, ***?

Jason- that is really interesting. Are you physically disconnecting it or are you turning it off using VAGCOM? I no longer have a DPF, so I wonder what issues, if any, I would have running without the MAF?

If you can turn it off via vcds show me. But I'm unplugging it for my experiments.

If no dpf it's OK to unplug. When it's unplugged the egr and exhaust flap default to open, and kills exhaust Temps to passively burn soot.

Turbo spool is a little weird and I don't think it has its full grunt when unplugged, but it's plenty to go down the road and climb Hills in high gear.

Future data collection

Greetings fellow diesel-goers.

My participation in this thread has been dwindling down for months now (obviously). Wondering if any of you would like to keep it going and keep it updated? I'm willing to pass on the Excel file(s) that I have kept. My interest in this has faded away. Family, work, kids, etc. keeps me quite busy and to be honest, I don't give 2-sheetz anymore. I've been DPF free for two years now- almost 44K miles ago. Now 186K. Car is still running like a champ. My goal was to keep this car and give it to one of my kids for a high school/college car. Now the goal is to keep it running until I can sell it back to VW. Then it's time to move on.

If there are any takers who want to continue or maintain this info, send me an email or PM. Otherwise I guess people can continue to post their DPF data.
Cheers!

24 September 2013 my Oil Ash Volume jumper from 39 to 48ml last month at 56k miles.
25 May 2014 Went from 48ml to 60ml at approximately 68635 miles...so took around 12500 miles for the additional 12ml.
21 Dec 2014. Jumped to 69ml at approximately 78719 miles at the start of a cross country road trip. Took 10 k miles this time. About half of the those miles were very short trips
30 Jan 2015. Jumped to 78ml at approximately 87411. This took about 8700 miles. Most of which were highway miles from the round trip coast to coast trip. Very cold temps.
23 Nov 2015. 90ml at 97737 miles. About 9500 miles.

270K miles on an '09. Ecm showing 379mL.... !

Wonder if that's accurate? Mostly because it's cracked. But then I've been dumping so much optilube it's almost pointless to stop for diesel....

Waiting for a pure flow adapter to pop up....

I've used optilube since the car was new. Also, B5 biodiesel. Local Sunoco is listed as up to B5 bio.

My P0401 (EGR insufficient flow) code/check-engine light has now been on constantly for probably the last 30K miles/18 months. Soot at tail pipe. Pretty certain DPF is cracked.

Back in late spring or so I had a month+ where car was doing extended 30+ minute regens multiple times per week (~250 miles avg weekly commute) -- this was quite concerning given dieselgate fiasco/uncertainty. I do NOT know if this is related, but I fixed a P2015 error code with the Diesel Geek motor stop insert early in the summer. For many months now regens have thankfully been much more normal; no more worryingly long ones, nor excessively frequent.

Any speculation if or how these could be related?

Towards the end ash level stopped increasing, and I was dumping in 16oz of super tech 2 stroke on every tank, and it would still always show zero for measured soot.

That thing was so ridiculously cracked. Such fragile components....

This is a very big concern IMO. I think it's safe to say that eventually, the DPF will become clogged and need to be replaced, whether that's at 100K or 250K. If they cannot be cleaned as I was hoping, VW better find a way to bring the price of replacing these down to a few hundred rather than thousands. Otherwise I see DPF deletes in many people's future or dumping their CR VW (which is a shame b/c this car is awesome) for possibly Mazda Sky-D.

305,000 miles, zero regens, zero problems.

Why am I just find this thread now. I had the DPF cleaned back in November, but i drive maybe 15 min at a time now, so it was only a matter of time before i started to get the warnings.

So a forced regen yesterday, then two long hour + drives at high way speeds. I haven't checked numbers this morning. Coffee first.

wouldn't be better to collect info about pressure difference as measure for clean DPF?

I recently swapped DPF nor a new one...old one had pressure restriction 200mbar...turbo must have pumped more hard...normal pressure difference suppose to be 30mbar

Furthermore, DPF older than 4 years has no more precious metals to react with...it is simply just soot collector and dead cat.

My 12 years old DPF had 0% of palladium or platinum.

Emissions Workshop

My car is a 2005 Passat, 2.0 TDI
I have become very intimate with her, I have stripped her down several times, and when I'm done she still responds the same way, Emissions workshop!
I have replaced the fuel\vacuum pump
Turbo, the mass air flap, the inter cooler hose from turbo, the silver domed vacuum reservoir, all vacuum lines, the cylinder head, I have cleaner the air sensor just before the engine, and changed the oil, and even gave her a kiss.
How do I clear this Emissions workshop?
The head was the problem, two valve failures, with the new head it starts up right away, not even one turn, I have the OBDeleven, that can clear codes but how can I clear the Emissions Workshop?

Hoping the participants of this very informative thread are still around, and with the number of buyback cars now finding new owners maybe this thread will become more active again. I bought my TDI two weeks ago and have been studying the emissions system with great interest this being my first SCR diesel. Here is my big question: When I bought the car from a wholesaler they had the oil changed at a quick lube place. I drove it almost 1,000 highway miles before I realized the oil they used was Valvoline 5w40 Blue Full Synthetic. I went to a VW dealer and had it replaced with VW 507 spec oil as soon as I realized it. Do you think there will be any long term effects from the 1K miles without the low ash oil? The car presently has 28K miles on it.

In a word, no. Just drive on and keep the correct oil in it now for the future. Nothing more you could do at this point anyway.

Thanks Lightflyer1.....I suspected it wouldn't be a big deal. One more question.....is the EGT-2 and EGT-3 sensor info from the OBDII the same as catalyst temp and DPF temp?......(I noticed that's where these two sensors are located)....thanks....
