Ive been doing some searching for answers to this question, but finding some of what I am looking for
is in 5-10 year old posts. I know things change with time so I hope you don't mind me starting a new thread
on a well covered topic.
I have a 2013 2.0 CKRA TDI that has been leaking an intermittent, small amount coolant in the timing belt area.
after some investigation I was pleased to find that it's just coming out the water pump weep hole. This car is about due for
what I believe will be its first timing belt change anyway, so this is good news to me. After looking at the coolant I am noticing
what is in the system now appears to be the Prestone type "all makes, models & years" it has the mostly transparent yellow color
that I have noticed this type of coolant is.
It seems obvious the coolant has been changed at some point, but I have no record of what it was changed too, or why it was changed
in the first place. I am going to look and see if there is evidence that the heater core was replaced, If I find the oem heater core is still in place, it seems like a no brainer that this would be the time to install a new one.
So what is an ok coolant to use on these aging TDI's in 2014? Are these newest Prestone types safe to use today, or is it still best
to stick with the Peak or others European pink G12 or G13?
