I have 2014 JSW 6 speed manual w/ 2.0 CJAA tdi engine. Last year few thousand miles after timing belt replacement bolt on big idle pulley sheared... engine junk.
Car-Doc / oilhammer / Brian Johnson shop quoted me over $8500 to replace and they wouldn't accept customer supplied used engine either. Fast fwd to today, I'm offically retired and have the time to do engine swap my used engine has 102K miles. my plan is to install new timing belt, dual mass 6 speed manual flywheel / clutch while engine is out, and change gear oil in manual 6 speed transmission

my question is: Do I need input s/n # to injectors in ECM or what? will imoblized need changed or ?? any other issues I need to do? or will engine swap be plug n play??
I paid $1400 for used 2.0 CJAA TDI w/ 102,000 miles. $8500 was just too much for me to pay.
thanks
Mike

If you remove the injectors, I highly suggest you replace the seals that go along with it to prevent leaks. If you dont want to swap and trust that the injectors in the swap engine are good, then go with that if you can swap the coding of the injectors.

I'm confused on to why a shop would decline a customer supplied engine. Usually if that happens, youd just make sure the customer is aware that there is no guarantee that the engine will last or run right. That way the shop wipes their hands clean of anything that goes wrong.

I'm enjoying it, 6 years one company and then 28 with company I retired from...

I asked that question, too but they (the service advisors) said they'd only use their supplied engines, wouldn't take on work, unless
I paid for their supplied engine. $8+k is lot for engine & labor, but when I was working I didn't have time, but had money, now that I retired I have time, but not money to pay someone else to do it, I can do it, can't be any hard than putting CFM-56 or VM2500 engine in airbuses from my job I retired from.
I checked out / into few other shops but I didn't trust them (non TDI experiance) but oilhammer / aka Brian Johnson at Car-Doc I trust.
but his supervisors / service advisor would not accept my used engine. and their quote for sourcing used engine was rather high ( looked like they marked up cost) I have 2 Jetta Sportwagen. 2012 and 2014 I just finished installing new dual mass flywheel, clutch, VW OEM brakes oil and fuel filter on 2012 6 speed Manual, which I plan to sell after I get the 2014 6 speed manual engine swamp accomplished.

I would have be pleased to have oilhammer do it, I trust him, but Car-Doc management, refused to accept a customer supplied engine., so....

I will replace the seals on injectors, i'll order some now...My plan is to install new timing belt, new dual mass 6 speed manual flywheel / clutch while engine is out, and change gear oil in manual 6 speed transmission and new timing belt kit, fuel filter / air filter I have all parts now except for injector seals...

$1200 is a good price for a CJAA with that many miles. Get you an engine crane and start stripping her down - it's really not a terrible job, save for the emissions related things. I don't know Missouri emissions laws, but if you don't have diesel emissions inspections my vote would be to ditch them and de-complicate the system

I’m also in the middle of doing a swap on my 2010 JSW. First time swapping a CJAA, but I’ve swapped a few engines in the past, including my 2003 tdi wagon a few years back.
Maybe we can help each other out if we’re missing anything or forget how something goes back together.

Oklahoma blueprint, I love it. I have the new engine in, and am in process of hooking everything back up now. Only get to work on it a few hours every weekend, so it’s going a little slow.

You can just repair it with a crimp/solder joint and that should be fine, no need to replace

had put project on back burner, lot crap going on...started rehabbing bathroom, been taking showers at my sisters, few days later found rear door and also garage door kicked in in attempted burgerly.. but they couldn't get in, but I had to replace both doors and frames!, my other two Jetta 20126 speed manual, and 2014 JSW DSG due for inspection renew tags, failed emissions one pot holed, other had DPF replaced by VW under warranty, only 17,300 miles since it was replaced! VW warranty under warranty good for 12,000 miles or one year they say.

so, bought new DPF from IDparts, and removed the VW replaced DPF what crap ass job they did... upper bolt (that's hiddened / difficult to see ) was NOT installed, nor was heat sheild on top side held on three 10 mm nuts, on under side over CV joint axel heat sheild was missing . and two bolts go in back side of subframe hold exhaust on only had one bolt i found out why they stripped bolt hole...I re-threaded it and put heilcoil in too..

I now need to use VCDS to tell it it has new DPF but not sure how.

then after I do it, get tags renewed for 2 years i'm going pull that damn DPF re-pot hole it.

I used oil hammer instructions for removing sub frame had it ready to drop in less than 20 minutes but had call buddy to help me unplug electric power steering plug bottom lower area behind left head light...I couldn't do it (unplug it) I only have one hand, was sure I'd break wires trying to do it myself... it was down near headlight / starter area... even my buddy had tough time with two hands... got it unplug and took out 3 18mm bolts perside with my wilwakee 1/2 impact tool..lowed it on transmission jack. I had tons of room to get DPF/ in/out took me 2 days { I'm slow working one handed] but reinstalling sub frame was super easy took me like 15-18 minutes tops supper easy now I see why oil hammer says he can do it remove / replace 30 minutes.

maybe in week or two when I catch up on house cleaning etc, i'll resume work on engine swap in 2014 ( I have two 2014 one 6 speed manual / other a DSG)

@mx757 My wife has a 2013 JSW 6 speed TDI and I have a 2014 JSW DSG TDI. Unfortunately, I wrecked my 102,000 mi 2014 in January and it's totaled. Bought it back and plan to take the engine out.
Everything has run through my mind from putting it in front of an AX-15 and swap it into an old Plymouth Valiant to finding a donor car body that needs an engine OR keep it for my wife's 2013 (215k mi).
I had some questions on putting the 2014 engine into a different year model. Do I swap 2014 ECU to new JSW? Injectors?
I will not be doing a swap by myself, I have a shop that will accept customer supplied parts without warranty. I just need to know what to keep and what to scrap.

Well that's a new source of anxiety for me.. Any idea why that bolt sheered? Good luck with the swap!

Been too busy on other things bath remodeling, tore old shed down / build new one, had get one Jetta to pass inspection
new DPF / remove subframe (so easy thank for write up oilhammer) took like 15 minutes get subframe down / 10 minutes to reinstall. and no front end alignment need flew to montral canada bought TWO Rawtech kits (down pipe catback resonator) winter is coming so engine swap likely going on back burner till spring. but I have two other TDI JSW to drive while that one waits...
