Chopped top on a Golf?? How much would it help

If 1-3" was removed from the top of the car. It would help the drag.. Wonder how much is would help though?

I'm looking for a wrecked or salvage 2dr golf and might have it done.

I doubt it is worth the trouble.

If not finished perfectly at every edge, it would probably even hurt your mileage, overall.

Where would you get the new glass?

It might help, but only if you are always going fast. Wind resistance doesn't do much against you up to a certain speed.

My head sticking up through the sunroof would probably negate any reduction in frontal area a lowered roofline would provide. You must not be 6'3"... /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Some ground effects spoiler up front (something that keeps air from roiling around underneath the car) might make more of a difference.

Didn't VW do that a few yeasr back, called it the Scirroco, basically a Golf with a lower roof line?

Actually, in the interests of reducing wind resistance, a lower spoiler would hurt things. At least with the stock ground clearance.

if the car was lowered and had the front spoiler, would that help any?

I was under the impression that a lower front spoiler will help... supposedly decreasing any air going under the car is helpful in reducing drag. Any insight would be appreciated though. PS. I'm about to start on the MKiiScirocco TDI..I'll post mileage figures (but weight will certainly be a factor too..especially for in town driving).

Obviously that was my understanding too and that's why I mentioned it.

I've read references to that several times and accepted them at face value. Perhaps it is too broad of a statement.

I'll Google it some time and see what I can find.
