The Bp/Amaco stations by me do not advertise at the pump if its Premier or Premium,it just says BP diesel. The BPs at Rt25/Dundee Rd in Carpentersville($2.65) and Rt59/Stearns Rd in Bartlett($2.73) their fuel seams to run well,no issues so far.The Road Ranger in Lombard(Rt38) had the B11 for $2.54 as of 03-26-06.web page prices not updated.

I went to Road Ranger on Friday. None of the pumps are marked as B11, I filled up at the furthest east pump. I think I got the D2? There was a big truck filling up on the other side of my pump.

Which pumps are the B11?

It's the middle set of pumps, second row over from the street. Look for the yellow pump handle. The ones on the back side are regular D2.
BTW, 2.97 at BP in Elmhurst for diesel tonight.

Road Ranger (RR) in Lombard

I have filled up almost exclusively at RR. However, last time I headed out there I noticed that the Thornton's in Villa Park (2 miles east of RR) had D2 for $2.589/gallon. When I got to RR their price was $2.619/gallon so I went back to the Thornton's. Both places had D2 for a penny less than regular unleaded gasoline. The extra miles back to Thornton's also got me into the 600 mile club.

The RR has biodiesel pumps located between the street and building, automobile (small nozzle) pumps just south of the building, and Big rig (large nozzel) pumps are on the row of pumps farthest from Roosevelt Road.

I just got back from the Palatine Oil in Palatine. That's the closest Bio to where I live. The only problem is the pump is one of those truck-sized nozzles and it's a challenge to get the bio in the tank and not on you, the car or the ground. That, and I don't know what I paid for the fuel -- I'll have to call them on Monday and find out the price per gallon. You can't miss which pump is the Bio though - they have a big sign up over the pump with some information on Bio.

The BD pumps are #9 & #10, there is a sign on top of the pump that talks about Biodiesel, and the pump handle says something like "STOP you moron, this is not gasoline, it's biodiesel!!". :)

Quick plug..Midwest Fuel Injection is also in Palatine, and they sell Stanadyne by the bottle or by the case. http://www.mwfi.com
If you buy a case, you get a discount, so be sure to know what the price per bottle is-their computer tried to charge me the higher single bottle price.
But at 2.55 for one shot vs $10 at Autobarn(!) it's worth the drive.

Thank you for all the great info! FYI, I bought 6 Stanadyne 1shots for about $24 at Evanston Autobarn a few weeks ago - they are not $10/each.

Also, last month I purchased a used 2002 Beetle TDI w/ 65k miles and I took it to the Autobarn (Evanston) for an inspection. They told me I needed a new timing belt, water pump & the sub frame (they said it was bent). All this needed to be done ASAP according to them. They also told me that VW recommends changing the timing belt every 60k miles, i told them that it was actually 80k and asked for my car back.

I had a bad feeling about the Autobarn's service dept so I took it to Fletcher Jones for a second opinion and to get the 60k maintenance. I had them check the timing belt, water pump and sub frame. Everything was fine. They even brought me back and showed me that the sub frame was not bent. They told me to come back and have the timing belt changed @ around 80k.

Is the Autobarn's service dept really that bad? Also, when it gets below 30 i hear what sounds like a squeaking belt. This disappears when the engine warms. Fletcher Jones said that was normal. Is it??

Thanks again everyone!

Downers Grove has not had Premier for over a year and a half despite what they tell you. You can tell by looking at it. It's the wrong color. Also they refuse to show the bill of laiding for the fuel. The driver did though! :D Good old plain #2.
That is NOT true.

I saw the bill of lading at the BP in Downers Grove less than a year ago and quoted it on this forum, I was tying to ask what all the info on the slip meant...

Interesting, I double checked the price quoted on the Stanadyne at Autobarn in Mt Prospect by calling back the next day and someone else also quoted the same price. Maybe it rings up for less at the cashier? I was floored when he told me 10 bucks but he said it was the price for one bottle of 1 shot.

I usually buy the half gallon jugs locally for ~$17 and refill a one shot bottle myself to save a few bucks.

I have heard similiar bad things (many times, actually) about the Autobarn Evanston, so that is no surprise. I bought mine at Autobarn Mt. Prospect and that is where I take it for service, they have actually been excellent!! So, I think it would be wrong to lump the Evanston Autobarn with Mt. Prospect, though I would absolutely never take my car to Autobarn Evanston.

Also, about the original post, the BP at Fullerton and Ashland does not sell Diesel anymore. I don't know for sure about the one on LaSalle. I have always filled up in Elmhurst, 17 miles from where I live.

The BP on LaSalle & Ontario has diesel. I don't know if it was the special diesel or not.

The BP in Lincolnshire (22 and Milwaukee) sells diesel. It said premier or something on the pump, but I didn't really notice anything different from the Speedway diesel.

I think you answered your own question about the reputation of Autobarn's Service Dept. Wait until the 80K mark on your Beetle and then contact Jason TDI, a well respected TDI mechanic that specializes in TB changes. You can do a search for him on here and you can read about how many satisfied customers, including me, he has and how well he will treat your TDI. As far as your cold squeak, send an email to Jason TDI and get his opinion on it.
Good Luck with your Beetle and enjoy this forum !

My timing belt had a squeak type whooshing sound at about 65K also, then when I had it changed at the 80K, it went away.

Are there any dealers in the area that are friendly towards chipped cars? I've got a little bit of a stumble, which I was told may be due to an injector leaking. I don't want a dealer that's going to rat me out. My other option is an outside mechanic, but this should be warranty work.
