Just found this site a couple days ago. There's some great information on here!

I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that the following BP stations have Premium Diesel:
631 N LA SALLE CHICAGO IL
1607 W FULLERTON AVE CHICAGO IL

There is no indication at the pump that they are in fact Premium and the clerks have no idea. Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You'd think the BP website would have premium diesel locations listed, but I've been looking too, and I can't seem to find the info anywhere.

Don't know, but ouch! it was 2.95 in Downers Grove today. I passed on it, and got Biodiesel at Road Ranger for 2.55 a gallon instead.

If it doesn't say Premier on the pump, it's not their Premium diesel.

How do you call BP?

Which Road Ranger? I want to get some BioD, but not sure which location.

I have always used the Meijer's diesel by my house in Bolingbrook, convenient, cheap, and have always run quite smoothly.

The Road Ranger is in Lombard, west of 83 on Roosevelt Road. It's on the south side of the street, right before you hit Pep Boys. The B11 pumps are in the second row of pumps away from the street-look for the yellow handle. They also have regular D2 in the back row, by the fence.

No they aren't.

Downers Grove has not had Premier for over a year and a half despite what they tell you. You can tell by looking at it. It's the wrong color. Also they refuse to show the bill of laiding for the fuel. The driver did though! :D Good old plain #2.

Go to Elmhurst for the good stuff. Other locations, tower rd in Wilmette, And Greenbay Rd further up north. That's it.

That road ranger get's their diesel from Bell Fuels and it's total crap. They have some of the crappiest #2 40 cetane garbage I've ever seen. My car smoked like a freight train on that S***. And I gave it a try several times over a 3 year period. Always junk.

Who in the O'Hare area does have good D2? Until Amoco/BP can get their pricing under control, they are out of consideration. I'm not paying a 40 cent per gallon premium for BP. Bell's web site makes some arguments for their fuel, including saying it's minimum 45 cetane.

Why put up with crap diesel at Road Ranger when there's B11 just south of that station at the JR Fuels @ 1100 N Ellis in Bensenville. Last I was there, it's only at pump #11 even tho the sticker on that pump said "Premium Diesel" on it. It was also 6 cents/gallon cheaper than actual premium diesel at that station and ran smooth and fine in my 2006 Golf.

One way you can find out is to collect some fuel samples from the Chicago stations by putting 6 oz or so into clear glass bottles and then doing the same from the Amoco station at the intersection Greenbay and Tower Roads in Winnetka. If they look the same as the Winnetka stations fuel, then it is premium diesel. (The man who manages the Winnetka station knows his product and he is very proud and pleased to provide the best fuel to his many customers.)

Supposidly the Amoco station on Lake and Skokie Blvd in Wilmette has only premium fuel, but the station personnel are not at all friendly. About a year ago the tank truck driver was there and he showed me the load sheet showing it to be premium diesel. He also told me that there were only 4 places recieving it; Elmhurst, Wilmette, Winnetka and the North Ave and Lasale (sp) station in Chicago, but today I only know of the Winnetka as "for sure" premium location.

Suppose one could also send the samples off to "Oil Guard" or some other testing service to see how they measure up. Would be interesting to find out.

Due to some rough starting issues, I will probably be taking the car into the dealer so I've got to cut B11 enough with D2 to keep it below 5% so they don't try to deny my warranty. I typically get B11 at Road Ranger, which I thought someone said was the same B11 as in Bensenville. I know it was mentioned the station in Bensenville had dirty looking pumps, which makes me wonder how clean the tanks are. I don't buy D2 at Road Ranger. OTOH, Bell's claims a minimum of 45 cetane, and typically say it's 47-48.

So, it it **** fuel at Bells, or perhaps it just used to be and they cleaned up their act? I like the B11 at RR, my car absolutely runs quieter on it.

Speedway at 885 E Touhy Ave, Des Plaines. I think their diesel fuel is OK. I don't know what is the cetan number there, but my car, PD Jetta, runs well.

The place at 1100 Ellis is an absolute pig sty. If the pumps are as dirty as they are, one can only imagine what the bottom of the tank looks like. I came, I saw, I left without trying it. I could be dead wrong though.

I also use the B11 at Road Ranger, but never the D2. I have never had any problems with it - runs smooth, and gets me 47-48 mpg every time.

The pumps are very user friendly: very clean, under the same canopy as all all the other pumps (it's the E85 pump that is banished off to the side where they used to sell Kerosene), pay at the pump, and a very controlable pump that makes it easy to top off.

B11 is good for the winter, but once the weather breaks, I would like to find something closer to B100. Feece out in Batavia is kinda out of the way, and $60 a tank is also kinda out of the way.

I sometimes go to RR in Bensenville because it is the only place where I can find a cetane posted at 45. My 2005 Golf seems to run good on their D2.
Unfortunately their bio pump is still shut down due to a lack of a canopy. I tried the B11 at 1100 Ellis just one time. I need to try it again to compare it with the 45 D2. What I would like to emphasize is that the word Premium does not always guarantee a higher rated cetane. I feel that it is more of a marketing term just like the word synthetic. I need to see the actual number posted on the pump.
Just my thoughts. JB

I know its way out there, but I fill up at the petro stop in Rochelle at I-39 and Route 38 just north of I-88 past dekalb. I often head that way for work. http://www.petrotruckstops.com/location_detail.sstg?id=24)
The price is always around 2.45. They have 20% bio in the warmer months, 10% bio this winter. I have been filling up there for abou 9 months and my car rarely blows smoke. Don't know the cetane, but my car sure likes it.

I thought it was Premium. If Amoco calls their D2 Premier I would like to know what the cetane rating actually is. As for messy pumps, that's to be expected at places that are frequented by big trucks. Consider it a good sign that the pumps are get alot of business, which means that the fuel you buy is fresh. My owner's manual does state that truck stops are good sources of diesel fuel. What I'm saying is don't let it intimidate you. It's the noise of the big rigs that can get to me sometimes.
I perfer weekends when all is quiet.

how do I buy diesel at road ranger and the JR at 1100 ellis?

I went to the road ranger late one night... And was intimidated by gates, and the pumps said you need to have a special fleet card, etc...

Can i just pull in my golf, use a regular CC and fill? How is this done? Same at JR's?

Road Ranger-just pull in and use a regular credit card-no fleet card needed, in spite of what the pumps say. At the one down the street, i wasn't sure how to operate the pump-I saw one marked B11, but it didn't have a readout on the pump to tell me how much I had pumped.

At the Road Ranger station in Lombard, it's just like filling up any car. Pull up to Pump #9 (or 10, iirc), swipe your credit card and fill up. It's B11, even tho it doesn't say so on the pump.

At the JR Fuels in Bensenville, pull up to pump #11 only. There's a credit card swipe machine on the same island as that pump. Swipe your credit card, punch in the pump number then fill up as normal.

Dunno how to use the Road Ready station further north on Ellis. The B20 pump there has been out of service for a long while, though.

I never had any trouble with either the B11 or the D2 at the Lombard Road Ranger. I got my highest mileage (55 mpg) with their B11. For BP Premier diesel, I go to the station in Elmhurst (York and Grand) or the one in Lincolnshire (Half Day and Milwaukee). But not often.

Yea, it took me a minute or two to figure out the card swipe at the JR Fuels, at 1100 Ellis. It is kind of long and horizontal. Weekends are good if it is your first time, and you can take your time to vent or just familiarize yourself with the pump.
Thanx for the info on BP Premier. I would like to give it a try.
