Regular Cab Ram 1500 Tradesman with 4x4 and diesel only: MSRP $36500

4x4 adds $4500

Diesel adds $4750 with required trans upgrade/upcharge.

That is $9250 extra over the base truck.

Looks like if you want a new diesel truck you just have to PAY

And keep in mind that no one pays anywhere near the MSRP on trucks. There's a ridiculous markup on them. I'm not sure how the Ram 1/2 ton diesel is, but ~$10k off MSRP on a 1/2 ton truck is par for the course.

Everyone wanted an Ecodiesel when I got mine, so bargaining was limited. I did get the USAA price.

saw a commercial for someone's full sized this weekend. MSRP was north of $55k and the special knocked over $10k off. IIRC. Not a bad place to start the negoitations.

Sounds like the GMC Sierra commercial. I'd take one. I'd like a Sierra SLE.

They are a nice looking truck but too big for me. Now if GM offered a diesel in the 1500 model...

I was talking about the 1500 commercial. I haven't see one on the 2500. The 2500 with the Duramax though...that thing is a beast. And yeah...a diesel in the Sierra would be nice.

I guess I got confused on my line of thinking too. The 1500 is more truck than I need right now, however, that crewcab would be great for hauling poelpe and a car seat. If I win the lottery tonight, who knows what may follow me home tomorrow!

New Diesel Colorado in the wild???

Has anyone actually seen one of these on a dealer lot or on the road?

I don't think they exist. I have been checking dealer inventory in Southern California and have not found a single one.

Use cars.com to check inventory. I know from thi website (http://coloradofans.com/) that people are starting to get theirs. I am going to run up to the chevy dealer that has one on the lot for a quick tire kicking. I agree with tomo336 on waiting until at least this fall when they will probably add some deals.

City Chevy didn't have it in stock and didn't know when one was coming. Oh well

I drove one in early January and dealer now has two different ones in stock. These are Colorados, GMC dealer has yet to receive a Canyon diesel.

I went and drove a Sierra 1500 SLE. They had a Colorado next to it and Sierra 2500 on the opposite side. The Colorado was a gasser, but they still managed to run the price up there pretty well. It doesn't look all that appealing sitting next to the Sierra...which is more roomy, capable, comparable fuel economy, etc.

I've been with USAA since my USNR commission following San Jose State.

Hope they did right by you.

How are you fuel numbers?

Even a MSC officer should be able to break into the 30's on the Interstate (please note the line-staff humor here).

all the best,

I've been wanting to go drive one of the Colorado's or Canyon just for fun, but I haven't found any here around me.

I saw one at the 2015 Farm Progress show in the Chevy section. Looks like with a little modification it could be a pure beast. Sharp looking truck too.

To make matters worse, I have new neighbors with a 16 Colorado gasser. Nice looking truck, but would look better with a dmax badge and on my side of the street!

I just finished driving a Colorado Z71 Diesel CCLB for a week to review. The review will be out in the April/May 2016 issue of Ultimate Diesel Builder's Guide magazine, on the newsstand in about 2 months.

I won't give away any major details here, but put simply it is an impressive lil' truck and the 2.8L diesel engine is very stout. I towed a skid steer on a tandem axle trailer and it did as good as what I would expect from a 1/2-ton gasser towing a heavy load like that. We also did some serious off roading and the small truck impressed in the dirt, water and mud too!! It was also comfortable for regular city driving with the family.

Price is high, but what new vehicles are not these days? If you want/need a truck and like to tow up to 7600/7700 pounds this could be a great truck that will give near 30 MPG on the highway unloaded and upper 20s in the city with a combined MPG around 24 even with heavy towing/off roading and dyno testing mixed in!

BTW it did 152 HP and 330 lbs-ft of torque on the Dynocom Chassis Dyno...

Chris,

How about your thoughts/impressions of Ram Ecodiesel vs Colorado diesel?

Actual street price favors Ram vs Colorado, even list price seems to favor Ram from what I see.

Have you seen/done dyno test on Ram 1500 Ecodiesel?

Thanks,

Thanks for the comments Chris. I look forward to your review. I don't want a full sized so the Ram is out. I find it very impressive that this new truck that can tow 7,700 pounds gets better mileage than my 07 stripped canyon with a 5 speed and 4 cyl gasser.

The Colorado is cramped compared the the Ram. The ride is much smoother on the Ram due to coil vs leaf springs. I've been averaging around 27 mpg which is as good as a lot of cars. There have been several lower end engine failures with the rods sticking out of the oil pan. Hope mine doesn't blow up. For the price, the Ram is a better deal as the sticker is around $40k for the Colorado.

I saw a guy post several videos on youtube where his cam spun its drive gear at around 140k miles. Would be interesting to know if this is an isolated issue or?

A friend of mine bought an ecodiesel ram based on your and oldnavy's experiences so thanks for posting! :)

I've been looking at the EcoDiesel and haven't been able to find any used around my area for less than high 30's low 40's. I haven't even been able to look at one to drive yet. Either people are keeping them or they aren't that popular in my area. I love the new Colorado and have been able to drive the gasser and really was impressed with it. Maybe in a couple of years when prices fall I would be able to get a diesel.

That's why I am hesitant to even test drive one. I'm sure I would try to figure out a way to afford it. Still they are out of my budget right now.

If you test drive an Ecodiesel, you will buy it.
I won't go test drive one then because it's bigger than I want. I will still have to rearrange my garage if I get a canyon, but at least I assume the bikes can stay there instead of going to the shed.
