2014 Jetta TDI Value
Just got a 2014 Jetta TDI Value

Picked it up yesterday, and 24 hours later I think it is a great car. I cannot believe the mileage already, and as a person who is 6'8" tall I am impressed with the room, both front and back seat. Got the 6 speed manual, so it is a blast to drive.

Not concerned about issues with the car despite what I have read here and elsewhere. I have owned Saabs, Volvos, GMCs, Lincolns, Toyotas, Chryslers and Dodges, and they ALL had some defect or problem experienced by some people.

Rented a Chevy Cruze not long ago, and felt it was a piece of junk.

I'll take my chances with this one, and let you know in a few years if I feel the same way. Until then, vroom vroom!

True if your gas car uses RUG. But my Tiguan, and almost any other model I might consider, uses premium. At least here in the Seattle area I see D2 about 25 cents per gallon more. And with PUG at $3.55 and D2 at $3.85-.95, that's 10% or less a difference.

While a TDI Touareg may not get a whole lot better mileage than my Tig, it is sure more enjoyable to drive. The Audi Q5 would be even better on mileage, and BMW announced last week the X3 is coming to the US with a 4 cyl diesel this spring. That should provide outstanding mileage. I'm just waiting to see how it's priced. The announced base price beats the Q5 TDI, but what I don't yet know is equipage and option pricing. That's where BMW and Mercedes can bury ya! :D
After my engine problem with my 05 Passat TDI and constant worrying about came wear issues with my 05 MKV TDI, I traded both. I really missed the jetta and wanted the fun driveability of a diesel so recently bought a CPO MB E350 bluetec v6. The car hauls butt, is comfortable and I average 30 mpg. Obviously less than the 4 cylinder diesels. I am hoping for
Less mechanical issues. Fingers crossed.

I just came across this thread again in New Posts and realized that you can get a Passat TDI SE 6-speed manual for ~$22,000...

Regarding resale, now that this car is available at a lower price I would think the value of existing Jetta Sedan TDIs just fell. Between getting a full warranty along with any rebates or financing incentives available, the new car will look more attractive to many buyers than a fairly new but used TDI at a similar price.
I had the opposite happen, when the Jetta TDI went from $16K to $20K from the '98 to the '99 model years, my used '98 actually went up in value!!! :D

22k for a 6M Passat is a great deal. It will be the best 22k you ever spent. I am really happy with mine.

There are just too many to list....
So I can buy for 23k in one state and sell in another state for 30k, sounds like a plan...

Yeah, that reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer and Newman were driving a mail truck full of old beverage bottles to Michigan to get the higher deposit back. :D

I recently purchased a 2014 Jetta TDI Value Edition. With this being my first one and reading, "After the fact," these High Pressure Fuel Pump issues, it is troubling, but i take it with a grain of New York road salt. :p At this point, I'm pleased with the car, and delighted to have quality and simplicity at this point.

Will keep you all updated.

Hey, at that price, if it blows up, you can just drop it on the side of the road and go buy a new one! ;)

You are absolutely correct. Cars are becoming like printers. If it breaks or the ink gets too expensive, toss it and buy a new one! :D

Of course Ink and Diesel are 2 different mediums serving 2 different purposes, and there are alternatives in the market place for both.
