2013 TDI wagon 6MT pothole hit
New to the forum so I apologize if this is posted in the wrong thread to ask something like this. To put a long story short(ish), I have a 2013 TDI 6 speed that’s hit a pothole already. I get this vibration and chattering at 2k rpm but at no other time. It doesn’t discriminate between gears and only does it under load at ~50% throttle or above and does seem to increase in intensity based on the throttle slightly. Above 2k rpm no noises, no vibrations, nothing even on WOT. Car drives fine and pulls strong w/ no slipping, clutch was replaced ~158k miles (currently at 215k) and goes into gear easily. No audible clunking at idle like a failing DMF. I’ve been scratching my head trying to see if someone has had the same issue on a manual MK6 TDI but to no avail. I do not know if it is of relevance, but timing was done 3k miles ago, and the fuel filter was just changed today with no evidence of metal shavings in the element. My buddy seems to write it off as normal TDI noises, but I had a 2011 TDI with a 6 speed with pothole damage as well and I don’t recall it ever doing this. Any help is appreciated! Really not trying to fire the parts cannon at it.

Common for cars with a tune that has max torque that the hardware allows, usually stage 2 and above. It usually occurs under full throttle 50% may indicate the springs on the DMF are weaker than normal. The recommendation is to "drive around it". In other words don't go wot in the rpms that it happens. The springs can only take so much torque.

That’s what I’ve been kind of doing is shifting where I think changing into the next gear would fall over 2k. I bought it tuned and I do believe it’s stage 2 or higher. Is it inherently dangerous to hit this RPM? And it sounds like the remedy would be an upgraded clutch kit?

Obviously it will eventually fail, how long no one knows for sure. It is very easy to shift at higher rpms so they stay above 2500. Your clutch should be fine with that few miles given the previous owner didn't abuse it (excessive slipping when taking off in 1st gear). They can last 250,000+mi. The DMF is what will need to be replaced they don't last as long as the clutch.
