Ah Charlotte, the Queen City. I lived there from 94-2000. What a great place to live, left only because daugher was born and all our family is in NE.

How is the 485 outer belt coming along?

I also have silver gls with black lether interior, have you gotten windows tinted yet? The sun in Charlotte is brutal this time of year. I am going to get my windows tinted next spring as the summer sun turns the car into an oven.

i haven't found one yet, but then, i haven't been looking. the dealer i've been using is keffer vw in huntersville, up i77 from downtown (excuse me, uptown). they're pretty good. i'm trying to learn how to do stuff myself so i don't have to visit a mechanic that often (hopefully).

got my windows tinted last week. it seems to help, but then the car's gonna be hot inside no matter what when it's 100+ deg. out almost every day. i'm from memphis originally so i'm used to it.

oh, and 485? won't be fully completed until 2015, if they don't postpone again. gotta love the ncdot!

LOL, 485 was doomed from the start. Thank Goodness I don't have to go anywhere near it on my commute.

No tint for me as of yet, but I do use those reflector thingies.

So, I'll be trying out an independent downtown VW garage here shortly and let y'all know how it went.

UserID "Osidak" is in Charlotte... I'd rather have him change my belt than your typical "VW Garage" or dealership...

Guy Roberts...Mt.Olive VW in Newton NC....about 30 miles west of Charlotte. He's been doing my work for 20 years and my diesel work for three. Very resonable and sells me the parts if its something I can do myself. I just turned 190,000 and he's getting ready to do my intake. He's done both my belt changes, two wheel bearings, clutch and flywheel, and two glowplugs. I also bought a set of OEM 16" alloys with near new tires for $200.

I'm a recent tdi owner & in the Charlotte area. Plan on doing as much of my own maintenance as I can. Was planning to head to Raligh for timing belt unless we organize something local.
I'm cleaning the intake now & so far so good. have shop & lots of tools, but little knowledge. Can anyone tell me where to find tightening specs & order for re-assembly of the intake & other parts?
