Any good mechanics around here? I used to overhaul 36 and 40 h.p. engines for $100 plus parts, so that tells you the extent of my skills. All this technology has left me behind. My wife and I drove a 61 bus from home all across the U.S. for 3 months or so in 1973. Anybody remember, "How to Keep Your Volkswagon Alive, A Step by Step Guide for the Complete Idiot" by John Muir? When a rod started to knock as we went over the Rockies, my wife and I overhauled it in the parking lot of the Grease Pit in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Those were the good ol' days -- no relays, computers, fuel injection, or power windows with motors that intentionally fail just to P*** you off.
Would it be okay to tell folks about a novel that I wrote to raise money to prevent child abuse on this forum? I sure don't want to break any rules because I need instructions to help my son keep his 2000 Jetta on the road.
Thanks for the opportunity to rant and I'll check back to see if anybody replies about a good (and inexpensive) mechanic around here. I talk to Keith's auto in Nitro, but he is almost as expensive as the dealer.
