Wingate By Wyndham - Columbia/Harbison at Exit 103 off I-26 was $35 per night plus taxes and fees ($46.41 total) via Priceline (2-1/2 stars).
How in the world did you get that rate? It keeps coming up at $67 for me.

If you aren't accustomed to using Priceline, you select the "name your own price" option to get the good deals. I posted the bid price they accepted.

Oh Chit!!!

Awakened this morning at 0358 by a car fire run. In my neighborhood, next street over. As we were turning into the neighborhood admiring the nice glow in the sky, dispatch corrected the address, giving MY ADDRESS!!!!

I jump out of the ambulance as we pull up to see the 03 Golf fully involved, and the garage siding melting. Eric had been awakened by the popping noises, and evacuated his room off the garage.

What the picture doesn't show is the melted gasoline can under the fuel tank, and the accelerant trail in the driveway leading to the gas can.

Obviously, I'm not going to make it. I have to deal with the aftermath and the insurance folks. Sorry to all I promised to help.

Andy, see that my B100 goes to a good home.

Bruce that's horrible! :( Glad Eric is OK and no one was hurt. Why would someone want to burn one of your cars?

No clue. Might be related to the home invasion we had last month. Police are looking into it.

Garage is OK. Cosmetic damage.

SumBEECH!!! Bruce I hope you find the a-hole that thought this was a good idea. Make sure the pokey charges them with attempted murder if there is a bedroom near where the car was parked, cause if the house had burned someone easily could have been killed. Or on the other hand, if you find the SOB first, give me a call. TDI abuse is right below animal cruelty on my list of things that gets me in the SC good ole' boy justice mode.

Bruce, sorry to hear about the fire. I hate it when I feel violated like that. Glad to hear no one was injured.

On another note, we're all booked @ the Hyatt Place on Harbison. Should roll in around 6pm.

Folks,
Please evaluate the weather, your own safety, and the safety of your vehicles and determine if you still are coming.

We will still be having the GTG for those that can make it, but I will COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND, if you choose not to attempt to travel.

Engineerorange, that includes you as well. I can buy roasted pig locally, no problem; it may not be as good as yours, but we will not go hungry. I will pay for your expenses no matter what. If you need to change your plans just call.

Whatchu talkin' bout Willis? I will be staying south and east of your place tonight. The freezing line is forecasted to be north of Chapin according to NOAA and it is going to warm up on Sunday. I have packed enough clothes for a 3 day tour. The pig will be there, and I will be there. I am not worried about my expenses, they are my expenses. Whoever shows up can just eat until they are full and I have two boxes of gallon zip-loks for anybody that wants to take some home. (if we don't eat it all) Is anybody coming from Kentucky that could take paramedick a bag?

Bruce - That's really terrible. I'm very happy that you and your family were not hurt. Good luck with the police investigation.

Unfortunately between the weather and three sick kids at home I will not be able to make it. I wish you all the best and hope the weather plays nice for you all.

Bruce,

Sorry about your 03 Golf!
They better find the ones responsible and prosecute to the max!
On the other hand your family is ok and that's a blessing!
I hope all goes smooth with insurance and investigation and that your settlement nets you a great replacement!

Maybe another in attendance

I spoke with Ryan (Wray VW saleman) on Thursday and he said he would try to stop by between 8 and 10 am. I'm not sure what vehicle he is planning on bringing. He will have to coordinate all of that with his boss since he is suppose to be selling cars.

Also for any out-of-towners heading towards Chapin be advised I-26 west starts backing up with traffic @4ish. I even have to get onto that side of town to avoid the traffic. See you guys @6 tonight for the seminar.

Dan
how much trouble is it to check my timing when we have the VAG-COM on it? I feel like I am still getting terrible mileage. I haven't gotten 40 since before we checked the cam.

Sorry

Guys I'm so sorry, I'm not going to make this one!
Too many things (personal and otherwise) conspiring to make
this trip virtually impossible or difficult at best!

Laundryeater I'll arrange to get those sprint 520's from you if
you want you can leave them with DanG144 he will be getting my
parts together for a shipment to me (I'll send a call tag). I will arrange to pay you however is convenient for you!

DuluthRooster feel free to re-allocate my 10 gal. of biodiesel to someone elso I hope that is convenient for you!! Thanks!

Guys, I was so looking forward to this GTG and meeting all of you, it's a real dissapointment to not be able to come and was a very hard decision to make!:(

I hope to make one in the future down in the south!;)

Given the fact that my car isn't 100% (how risky is it to drive with possibly-starting-to-fail CV joint?), I'm not sure I'll be going after all. However, I ordered a set of engine mounts from Peter to be delivered to the GTG. If I don't go, is there someone else from Atlanta who could bring them back for me?

if i don't make it, dan, wade will be picking up for me a 5 liter jug of 5w-40 i ordered from peter. still hoping to make it, but if not i'll see y'all sometime down the road

Please!!!

To whom it concerns:

There is apparently a VAGCOM seminar tonight.

The weather is sucking for me, coming from Hickory NC, so i guess i won't be able to attend.

Is there any way someone could videotape/camcord the session, then upload it to 'utube' or pass along digital copies to members here?

I was trying to come to learn this V-C, but the my tires are slickbald, and i'm not going to risk it.

It wouldn't take much equipment, sorry for proposing this a mere few hours before it starts.

I'm actually more upset about missing the 'pig', and helping anyone with a lift pump/timing belt job....

but i thought the idea of taping the sesssion would help other TDI'ers, who can't make it, either unplanned, or weather related whatever?

Looks like I'm out too. Considering the combination of bad weather and a sick baby, the wife and I decided to pull the plug on the trip. Thanks for all your work, Dan. I hope to make the next one.

You all have fun and be careful!
