I'm still a go. Did my timing belt, wp, etc...last night, so I'll just worry about Cam inspection at the gtg. The car actually seemed to idle better after changing the belt, which I thought was interesting.

The bleeder I have is a re-labeled Motive bleeder. Sounds like there are plenty to go around, but I'll throw it in the car anyways. Also will bring VCDS and laptop. If I can get my Bentley software working on the laptop before then I'll have that as well. A5 license only-

Not sure if I can be there at a reasonable time on Friday, at the very least I'll be there early on Sat. Can bring drinks/food, or cash to chip in for a grocery run.

Hey,
Never been to a GTG before. Please put me on the list for an RC3 if there's still space available. I don't seem to be able to edit the list myself. No food for us, though. Thanks!

Peter at ID Parts responded to me about GTG and he will be willing to do free shipping on consolidated GTG orders. When you place an order just let him know that it is for the Chapin GTG...to insure delivery by the GTG orders must ship by noon on January 25th and will ship to DanG's UPS Ground.

Anybody coming to the GTG have the specialty suspension tools needed to do a total rebuild on an A4 Jetta? I need new struts and shocks and thought that I would do the ball joints, bushings and such as well but I really don't want to spend the money for all of the tools to do the job right now.

If someone has the tools let me know so that I can get all of the parts ordered

Thanks

Bruce , I have some OE sport shocks that were off a GLI, and F&R stock TDI springs if you need them . No struts.

I have everything needed EXCEPT for a press for the control arm bushings.

Dan has an air compressor, correct? If so, I will pack the impact sockets/extensions.

I have updated the lists again, in post #1. Please check my editing.

engineerorange thinks we are big enough for half a pig, now. So it looks like a pig pickin'. There are 4 or so who will not be eating with us.

Is there anyone left that I have not sent directions and contact info?

If so PM me, please.

(I would rather not post it online.)

Thanks...I am still trying to figure out what to do on this...this borders on too big a project for a GTG but if I get the brakes bled and the gear oil changed 's a week or two before then I believe that I should be able to get this done and still help others. I can get the car up on stands in Dan's Yard a day or so earlier and take everything apart ready to put back in...that sort of thing...Then use my other Jetta to go back and forth.

can a 98 Beetle be flashed by Jeff on the spot, or is that one that requires a chip to be soldered into the ECU before it can be flashed?

I will be there, planning on getting someone to do an inspection of my suspension, wheel bearings, etc. I know I need struts and shocks at a minimum. Other projects depend on how long it takes Franko6 to get my head back to me after I broke the timing belt. :(

I will also be getting a Rocketchip tune.

I do not know. But he opens most of the ones I see him work on, and does some work inside. I have assumed he is installing a chipset.

From what I have seen he bring his soldering tools, all sorts of electronic gear - a portable shop, when he comes.

As I have said before, I cannot speak for him, but I would bet if you bring it, he will tune it.

For what it's worth, I did the control arm bushings on my MK4 with a vice and sockets.

I may or may not be attending. I just looked at the map, and Chapin is 4 hours away... and I'm already looking at putting in about 4k miles this month. I try to not drive on Saturday... especially not 8 hours.

I just moved back to Georgia from Michigan. Google Maps tells me this is about 3.5 hours from where I am, so I am going to try to make it. Hope to make some new TDI friends down this way :) and maybe someone can help me replace the turn signal on my side mirror too

Well, I already live in the car, so it's going to depend on how I feel @ coffee time on Sat. morning. I'm not getting RC tuned. Charlie sends all of my tunes via email. I'm pretty sure I'd be running solo, and I probably wouldn't even be working on anything. I'd be just coming to chill. Now, if the misses wants to come...

Jeff could give you a taste of what a RC tune is like, he can temporarily load his tune on your car and flash it back. The nice thing is RC tunes rarely if ever need to be tweaked. It might be fun to compare the 2. Just a thought.......

I would be interested in the seminar on Friday night. Not sure if hubby and kids will tag along or not since hubby will be just minutes from your house until @6 pm anyway.

If all goes well and I get my unemployment check I REALLY need to have my auto tranny fluid changed. Is that possible at a GTG?

Any idea for cost on tranny fluid and filter kit? maybe a fuel fitler and cabin filter too?
