Need some advise. The Refrigerant Control Valve in my 2006 TDI Jetta BRM is failing. I’ve got a new compressor on order from ID Parts.

My question is the replacement. First off, let me explain that I have a lot of experience with US A/C systems and the needed tools. But, I’m willing to read directions and according to the Bentley Service Manual I have it says that the compressor on the diesel can be changed without draining the system. But !!!! Elsewhere in the same manual it says that the refrigerant needs to be removed, vacuumed and recharged.

So, can I replace the A/C compressor on the TDI diesel without draining the system?

Thanks for any input.
Steve.

1. If the RCV valve is the only issue, all you need to do is replace the RCV valve, not the entire compressor. You will need to remove the AC charge, use a vacuum and re-charge after the system after the replacement of the RCV valve.
2. You cannot replace the AC compressor without discharging the AC charge. Once again, see above: replace only the RCV valve.
