One of my local customers has two of his wheel bolts break off in the hub (aftermarket cheap chrome lug bolts)

I got a new hub and lug bolts. I however dont have the bentley on this car. I do have Etka, and it shows the wheel bearing being held on by two small lockrings. Is this all that holds it in there other than the axle or is the whole assembly pressed together? I have never had to disassemble this part of a B4 before and I'm a bit consufed without the book to help me. Does anybody have experience fixing this or have the book/cd manual and can explain to me what must be done? I'm going to take a look at another members book, but I want to get the job done asap and hear your thoughts on how its done, if youve had to do it before.

thanks

If it's like the A3's then the unit is pressed together. Pulling it apart is a chore and once you do the bearing is destroyed. You'll need a new bearing and it will have to be pressed in.

There are presses available that allow you to remove and install the front wheel bearings on the car. I think Harbor Freight has one. Whatever you do, do not roll the car with the axle removed, it will destroy the bearing. It may be easier to try to remove the broken stud.

pretty sure u can take the bearing out and hub and have new bearing put in the hub. heres a great hint!!! always put grease around the outside of the bearing because that what makes them go when they lose they grease. this is just one reason. cant get the tech bulletion into here so the number is w42 011 294 113a. read it, its about not greasing wheel bearing. i had one go at 80000 miles. have fun. after u get hub off go to a machine shop and get it pressed in.
