The fall meeting of the Central Florida TDI Group is set for SUNDAY, November 16, 2008 in Ocala, Florida. The tech topics to be covered in the garage will include:
1. EGR removal, cleaning, reinstallation.
2. Experimental home-built EGR pre-cleaning device: design, construction, operation, & service.
3. Replacing a serpentine belt.
4. If time is available we’ll also demonstrate how to “time” the injection pump.
:D If anyone wants his or her car to be the sample to have the EGR cleaned, call me ASAP at 352-572-8421. I can only do one car at the meeting. Do you want it to be YOUR car?
As is our tradition, we’ll eat lunch together. The cost is still $5 per person. Lunch will consist of: snacks, beverages, hamburgers, condiments, salad and ice cream sundaes (seeing that it’s Sunday!).
The topic during lunch will be: Dealing with VW dealer & corporate on major issues. What seems to work and what apparently doesn’t.
We are also asking all participants to bring any information they have on vendors, mechanics, shops, dealerships, etc. for TDIs. This info will be collected and placed in the next newsletter to assist TDI owners in making purchases and services. Include in your info: your name, company name, address, city, state, zip, phone #, website, etc. Feel free to include as many sources as you can. It all helps our members.
As always, we ask that you pre-register by TUESDAY, Nov 11th so that we have an accurate head count for food, especially as food has now jumped in price, therefore it’s difficult to maintain our lunch charge if folks say they’ll come and don’t show up & pay.
So… either email back to me at mendy@mfi.net -OR- phone me at 352-572-8421. If I don’t answer, leave a message. I’ll get back with each of you via email or phone with directions to the meeting’s location. You must register by Wednesday, Nov. 12th.
AGENDA:
Registration & snacks: 11:30AM to 12:30PM
Lunch promptly at 12:30PM.
During lunch: Discussion of dealing with VW on issues.
Tech session: 1PM until 3 or 4PM.
During the day: There will be sufficient time for members to visit with each other and share concerns, war stories, ideas, skills, knowledge, etc.
RESERVATION REQUIRED : Email to mendy@mfi.net -OR- phone 352-572-8421.
We look forward to seeing many of you in Ocala on SUNDAY, November 16, 2008.

Thanks to Chris, his wife and the crew to opening their home, garage and engine compartments to a former TDI owner.

There was a total of 19 people that showed up Sunday. We had a delightful meal-hamburgers grilled by Chris & a special salad made by Sally. Plenty of food for everyone & ice cream as a treat. Did EGR cleaning, scanned vehicle with VCDS, and helped owners with minor maintenance and solved a couple of problems. I understand next meeting will be in February. No one to miss for sure!:D  :)

A Great TDI Club!

As for me, I drive 150 miles from SE Georgia to the meetings. I find it to be most helpful for me since I want to stear clear of the Stealerships. I have learned a great deal from the meetings and from other members that have attended. I now have many new friends that I stay in touch with via e-mail. I found that other members have some of the same interest I have, like boating and fishing.
The most suprising thing that happened while at the meeting this time was, while walking back to the garage I spoke to the next door neighbor who was working on his tractor. I asked if it was a Kubota Diesel and he said yes, we started to chat since it was the same motor I had in my sailboat. While talking, I found out he worked for the same company I did. I kept quiet about telling him that I worked for the same company. He worked in Augusta, and I worked in Atlanta and Brunswick Ga. He about fell over when I told him later who I worked for. What a small world we live in.

As for my wifes Beetle, I now do the oil changes, and all the filter changes. I might mention the brake fluid was over the two year flush requirements, and it just so happened I had a couple of large bottles of new brake fluid with me at one of our past meetings. LOL! Later after the meeting, Chris said let's put the car up on the rack and you flush it out while I do something else. My TDI buddy Frank from Lakeland helped with pumping the pedal while I flushed out all the fluid. Chris was most helpful in getting this done right. We also flushed the clutch slave cylinder. Since I had more fluid than I needed, I left it with Chris. He is the Diesel Doctor and a good friend. I am looking forward to our next meeting in February. I also want to mention Sally. It's a hard job getting together all the food that is prepared for our meetings. Shopping, cooking, clean up, etc. What a great job she does. Much applause goes out to Chris and Sally.

If you have a VW TDI, this is the club meeting you don't want to pass up.
