CAT Filter Install in \'05 Passat TDI (2nd filter)
I recently installed a CAT fuel filter on one of my 2005 Passat TDI diesels. This filter has been installed as a secondary filter down stream of the OEM Bosch filter. Just below and in front of the coolant over flow bottle is a perfect spot to mount the filter. No drilling or modifications to the vehicle are required. The fuel lines in the vehicle do not have to be cut or lengthened (you do add one line between the OEM filter and the CAT.
Below is a PDF file that shows how I fabricated and installed a bracket that mounts the A4 VW CAT filter kit purchased from Lubrication Specialists. Also included is a description of how to use the electric fuel pump in the Passat tank to prime both filters. This priming technique is good for fuel filter changes and the unlikely event that you run out of fuel.
