Advance auto use to carry this. What is everyone running in their 2015 CVCA engines? I'd like to be able to pick it up at my local parts store or online pretty easily. I know it's got to be 507.00 approved. Thanks.

oh boy, i guess you missed the dozen or so threads about this being changed to 0w30 507 spec by VW... you might want to search and read up.
in a nutshell, vw does not care about you or the car, just emissions so getting 0.5% more fuel efficient at start ups and killing cams is better for a green earth marketing campaign
here is a decent thread giving you most of what you need to know
Link below
Yeah, 0w30 will tear up PD camshafts faster than a fat guy through donuts.

OP is asking about his 2015 commonrail tdi. It's not a PD, and not prone to cam wear like the PD engines. Any 507 rated oil will do just fine- it's a good spec. Lots of options. I like Mobil1 ESP 507, among others.

amazon had Valvoline XL-III for $78 for 3x 5qt jugs , I see it popes there from time to time, not a bad price for 15qts. If you want local, autozone has Mobil ESP that you can buy online pick up in store or get it shipped

Thanks for the replies. I'm liking the looks of Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30. i see my local auto zone has it for $6.79/quart, when you buy a 5 quart jug. Thanks again, you guys are great people.

I'm not aware of Mobil offering a 5w30 ESP with a 507.00 certification in a 5 quart bottle. You probably should check it for the certification.

$34 for 5qt, wow good thing I got 4 five qt of Castrol for $24 each shipped with tax.

After these I'm going with liquidmoly.
Yeah with today's stupid inflation that's a steal of a deal. You must have bought these before everything went to he🏒🏒

Yep I bought it before everything went up. I also saw that you have a 15 passat, which takes 5.8qt I believe vs mine which is 4.5qt. So you have to get extra oil.

That's true I forgot mine does take more than 5 quarts. I've only had it long enough to do one oil change so far.

The point was that it was applied to all 2009 plus TDIs. Still not good

OP isn't asking about oil for a PD. I have yet to hear of any cam wear issues on the CRUA/CVCA engines, and lots of them are well into their second timing belt interval. 0w30 or 5w30 is fine for those engines. But I agree that I wouldn't use it in a PD.

Hello, I get the "507" spec. I see that the Mobil ESP 5w30 does not say "507". People still run it i take it correct? Wife has a 15 Passat TDI thinking of getting the 5w40 for her. I drive a Touareg. All i can think of is why it does not spec at VW is the Sulfur?

507 is low ash oil, so it tries not to accumulate ash in the DPF. The DPF can only accumulate a certain amount of ash before it has to be replaced.

Non 507 oil will generate more ash, thus hurting the DPF.

So will not matter once deleted. I have about 25k left on emissions warranty. If its only the DPF it hurt i do not care. One still can get Castrol 5w30 right? I know VW is Mobil now. I believe they did the "switch" cause they could not get 5w30. 0w30 in place.

On the back side of the Mobil 1 ESP jug it does say VW 504 00, 507 00

Mobil's naming is somewhere between silly and infuriating. All their oils are called Mobil 1, and there may be more than one ESP. If it doesn't say it meets VW's 507.00 certification on the label I would not use it, no matter what your plans for the car's emission system. Once deleted there are a variety of oils you can use without harm if you want to divert from the 507.00 oil.

The Mobil1 ESP line of oils includes 0w20, 0w30, 0w40, and 5w30 products. I actually bought a jug of Mobil synthetic oil that wasn't marketed under the Mobil1 or Delvac1 product lines a year or two back. They have a pretty impressive range of products. I find the Castrol product labeling more confusing myself.

Castrol is bad, too. Everything is Edge of one kind or another. Or Evolution.

What?
Why is it bad?
I know it's not as long life as others but its cheap.... it has its use. Flushing.... breakin.... really any use for about half or less of the service.
Oil is oil until it gets hot and old... that's when it really counts... as long as it's the spec called for .... kinda.
Ah it's just another oil thread.
Anything we say will mean absolute dog doo. Everyone will just do what they want... read the millions of internet mechanics with seat dynos and honestly it makes little difference.

The oil is fine. The labeling could use some help.

Hey, once you've caught a whiff of Ipone strawberry scented mix oil burned in a two stroke Saab, you'll never go back to the pedestrian stuff, lol.

This is what I am using as well. And my local Advance stocked it, and honored it for the bundle (5 qt + filter) deal. Even got a Mann Filter.
