If the car is unlocked, you can remove the drivers door tumbler without the key super easy, then you can get a key made.

You'll still have an issue with the immobilizer, either have a locksmith find and code it, or have it deleted.

98 Jetta TDI AHU 1.9L (944 TDI swap in progress) I moved so now i got nothing but an AHU in a garage on a pallet.
make sure you have the MVA check the title for you before you buy. lost keys are a very big red flag for stolen or title hopped cars.
do the sale at the MVA and if the seller isn't cool with that, pass

Sorry mva is east coast for maryland and some other states.
Motor vehicle administration
Most better states all fall into a DMV or department of motor vehicles
Seeing as OP is in VA that uses the DMV so my bad.

Just another reason glad I moved.

The answer to my own question is, as Nero Morg suggested, take the drivers tumbler out and send it to Mark @ mark1service.com He will decode the key and send you the tumbler and code back, or cut you keys or do whatever you want. I sent the tumbler and received the key back all within 4 days. You can determine the cost by looking at his website.

For those who contributed to this thread without providing an answer to my question, but decided to pound your keyboard just to see yourself in yet another thread providing unasked for information, please just stfu.

Just another prime example of vendor status abuse and passive aggressive profanity.
Got a problem bub? PM me like a man or just (in your words) stfu.
There is an ignore feature and I suggest you use it.
Your question answered itself when you asked it. You know what to do so why ask! It's very common for scams and what not to come up from lost key sales. It's up to you to head a warning but it's not ok to belittle any member for any reason. What did I do to piss in your cheerios?
You're mad because you're thread has posts by members who are free to post? Get over yourself dude. Pick a fight... do it in PM

If anyone thinks me asking posters to not post in my thread if they aren't going to directly answer the proposed question is "vendor status abuse", please by all means report me. I don't need grandfatherly advice about buying a car when I sought an answer about how to get a key made. Nuff said.
