2011 to present Volkswagen Jetta
In previous generations, the Volkswagen Jetta was always a little bit left of center, a cap tipped at a rakish angle as compared to all the other Genericmobiles running around the countryside. As a result, nobody bought them except for urban hipsters who needed to travel longer distances than they could manage on a bamboo skateboard. In 2011, Volkswagen recognized the error of its ways. VW bosses went back to the drawing board (after confiscating everybody's French curve) and styled a car so relentlessly boring that the robots building it dozed off.

lol That's Funny.

I like the fact that the car kinda fly's under the radar. People are often surprised that its a diesel motor. I am a big guy and I love how much room there is inside a Jetta compared to other peoples cars I have been in. I'm looking forward to longer road trips with my new car.

BigCE, I agree with you 100%. I also don't mind the blend-in look. I can't see the outside when I'm inside anyway! And inside is where I prefer to be. I was amazed, too, at the roominess. When we were first looking at it, my 6' 3",260# son-in-law sat in the back and said he could ride across the country back there. My son is 6' 8" and when he drives there is still room for a smaller person to sit behind him! In a lot of cars he would have his seat clear back against the rear cushion. Plus the amount of trunk space is unreal! And then there's that lovely Diesel engine! Never has to downshift, even on the steepest hills on the Interstate, and always well over 40 MPG.
So let the critics grumble. I might even send them some cheese to go with their whine!

Black on Black 2015 Jetta. Can't see me, can't hear me, can't smell me...stealth mode till they see the taillights glow.

My car isn't boring either :)

DirtRacer,
Did you have to roll the fenders to get 255's stuffed in there?
I have a similar setup, but 225/45R17 GT Radial UHP1's (don't knock 'em 'till you try 'em) on GLI Bathhurst wheels, H&R Sports, Koni Yellows, Spherical control arm bearings, S3 Strut Mounts, Hawk HP+ pads with brake backing plates removed.

Yes I rolled and pulled the front and rear. The grip level is pretty insane with 255 rs3's. Where did you get the spherical bearings for the control arms? The stock bushings suck pretty hard under full braking

I made the spherical bearing inserts. I just gave the design to a reputable shop, so hopefully they will be available for sale soon.
They really help liven up the car, there is SO MUCH play in the rear bushings that your toe angles probably go out a few degrees in corners.

Not boring to the women, me thinks. One of the few cars some women actually know what it is other than just being a blue car.

Boring in that when you drive it, it just handles and performs as a well thought out and built car should. 120 MPH? No problems no surprises................

You folks realize "car talk" has been in reruns for several years??
One of the hosts stopped doing the show several years ago, and died due to issues related to altimizers a few years later.....the other brother still writes a weekly column for some papers... But is mostly retired due to age...
: Tom passed away on November 3, 2014 of complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Bet the posts for this thread was one of the very last made before"Click and Clack" signed off the air....

The car talk web site has more content than reruns (and new remix of old content) of the show.

this additional content is updated, with guest and staff bloggers.

The Jetta may be boring, but then I'm more boring, so....

Anyone who's ever driven a Corvette for a few miles will likely either have a really nice bank balance, or come to appreciate boring. Drove a friend's 'vette for a few miles and had the full attention of a sheriff's officer until I left his county. Drove 5 mph under the limit and acted like a young lad getting first inspection from the girl friend's dad. Not fun.

I'll take that "boring" all day long. Like when I'm "boring" into a 30 mph 90 degree corner @ 75 and it sticks like glue. Or "wringing it out" at a buck and a quarter and it's rock steady riding like it's on rails. But the best was diving into first turn left hander at the entrance to the "Anvil" at Watkins Glen. Go in DEEP and come out HARD. YUP! Sure is "boring".
