Hey guys, I'm working on this Honda I recently acquired. This replacement engine I got seems to have an oil leak on the side, but I can't seem to figure out where it's coming from. I've asked questions on the Honda forums, but those guys never respond. I don't think they do more than change their floor mats over there. The leak seems to be originating from the timing cover where the mount bracket is bolted. The bolts go right through the timing chain cover and into the head. My concern is that the lower part of the motor is more wet than the upper... I would think that if it's coming from the source, it should be just as wet around it, right? Can oil stain travel upward? Maybe if the engine was dusty? Here's a video of it:

Thanks!!

I'd guess the front crank seal which isn't all that uncommon on the older CRV's. Its slinging the oil and the reason its everywhere.

Yea, I pulled the timing cover and resealed it, as well as put a new harmonic balancer seal on it. Seems to have stopped, but time will tell... used honda-bond, which at 50-60F turns to about the consistency of clay. Very hard to squeeze out of the tube. I hope it works better than that **** you buy at AdvanceAuto. I can guarantee that whatever you seal up with that will leak within the month of you driving it.
