I just filled my first tank. The other tank was filled by the dealer and I dont know how many gallons they pured on the tank. I did filled on. Chevron gas station. It took 15,5 gallons.
It filled complety and the gauge marked totally full.
I did not have problems with foam...
With the dealer first tank drove about 480 street miles.. Im hoping t get more than 500 miles with my filled tank..
What part of Dallas?

Actually I live in The Colony/Frisco area...at the 121 @ Spring Creek (JC Penny Headquarters area).
How about where you at ? did you get your car already?
Do you know any people that do Vag-Com code modifications?

I got my Passat 2 weeks ago today.

I have vag-com but haven't done mods for anyone, only used for monitoring. I am in Allen.

What vag-com software are you using? I have not been able to get the USB drivers and the software to work together on my Windows 7 netbook. I'd really like to see my true tank level via VCDS.

I am using 10.6.5 on an HP Win7 notebook.

You should be using Beta 11.10 which has the latest and greatest coverage:

http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/beta/current.html#11.10

It should automatically install the USB driver. Feel free to contact us on Monday if you are still having issues:

I have one of these cables.

I'm not able to get the Proram Options to save. I get COM port 3: OK but it says Interface not found.

I was able to get it to save once with a very old VCDS load, but there were no monitorable parameters to run. But now I can't get a visible interface even with it plugged into the car.

What did you expect from a pirated knock-off? Throw it in the trash and buy the real thing. Do you really think a well designed and feature rich program sells for a mere $16.88?

I didn't know. The software says it works with different interfaces.

That 3rd party interface only works with older interfaces (if it works at all). For the 2012 Passat which uses CAN-Bus diagnostics, you'll need a genuine Ross-tech HEX+CAN or Micro-CAN interface as explained above.

Yeah, mine will only fill to 1/2 tick short of full. Hard to believe a car could make it through all of design/testing and be delivered to dealers/customers with this little shortcoming, not a big deal to me, but certainly is surprising.

With VW spending so much money on "marketing" quality, would be nice to see more of that budget go to "actual" quality.

I hear ya, but really I'm very impressed with how this car is put together.....just can't believe that a vehicle where they are touting mileage range with the TDi and large tank, has the inability to actually fill that tank up.....you mean to tell me noone noticed this when they were actually testing this vehicle.....blows my mind that this could happen

Maybe it's indicative of an overall lack of attention to quality in their manufacturing process. Basically a small symptom of an overall larger issue like newbie worker managers and engineers since it's a new manufacturing plant.

I wait until range on my car was 0. I filled up on fast click and it took 16,1 gallons.
This is my second tank of fuel and first time it marks not totally full, maybe a little bit to mark totally full but after I drive for a couple of minutes it finally rest on the full mark.
So the entry tank gauge was totally on enthy and range was 0..so it took 16 gallons so I figured that they still 2 gallons left on the reserve tank...

I've come to this forum to check into a '12 Tdi Passat that we are looking at replacing our golf with and found this thread. I've had a similar experience in the Tdi Golf and have found that high flow diesel pumps are public enemy no 1. I will usually get 5L in after the auto cut off and now just fill till I get 55L in the process; I routinely run the tank near to empty so can be assured that a 55L fill will do the trick.

Filled up the wife's SE the other day. I just gave it a little time to settle (just like maxing out my 05 Golf by releasing the vent) and had no problem getting it to the full mark on the gauge. I don't have a VAG-COM to confirm it was exactly 18.5 gal, but it was definitely full on the gauge.

Putting the pump on full blast and locking the handle rarely works for me at any station (high flow pumps suck for these small cars), so I either end up using the first lock notch only or manually holding it for the couple of minutes...

Maybe I missed it some where but what quality issues are you having with your 2012 Passat? Only 2,500 miles on mine and not one issue or sign of any quality issues.

after the first click on the pump i can get in another .7gal, so looks like the passat is just a little worse with foaming.

I tried pausing after the handle clicked off for about 30sec and then was able to fill completely for the first time.

I filled up again today. Waited for the auto nozzle to click off, pulled out the nozzle so I can see the fuel in the tube. Started to fill again and it took almost a gallon. I think the foaming is kicking off the auto pump. I see no design problem and if you run your tank down so low a gallon makes a difference you may want to reconsider your fuel management program.

Same problem, filled up yesterday, only had 20 miles to empty. Could only get 14.6 gallons in, even after waiting and topping up. Gauge only went to just under 7/8th.
Good news is that 14.6 gallons took me 680 miles. GREAT

Well, my second fillup (at the same Gulf station/pump as last time). My distance to empty showed 5 miles on the MFA. The pump would shut off instantly if I tried to lock it into even the weakest detent so I manually held it and it took 16.689 gallons. That includes several bursts at the end, waiting for foaming to settle down, until I could see non-foamy fuel in the filler neck. I logged some parameters in VCDS at the same time, fuel level sensor (Ohms), fuel level (liters) and fuel gauge reading (degrees):

Actual MPG was only 28 (all city, with four cold starts per day, only 4 mile commute each way with trip home and back at lunchtime). The MFA said 30.1 but I think it may not have gotten completely topped up last time.

Auto shut off stopped pump....cleaned front windshield....went back and pumped in another 0.8 gallons to hit the full mark.

In NJ here with all gas full serve. Attendant said their diesel is going from self serve to full serve. Too many drive offs. Now I willl have to wait for the guy to pump for me. One of only 3 states in the US. Stupid politics here in NJ.
