Can the wagon hatch be repaired? And how to keep it from getting worse?

My hatch is just showing the very slightest rust at those hot corners that always rust. Small enough that you have to get up close and look in that groove where the window weather stripping meets the metal, but it's definitely starting. As the title states, I'm wondering if there is any point in asking a body shop to try to repair it? Or is that a waste of time. I assume the window would have to come out - can the windows be reinstalled?

Secondly, are there any particular tricks to keeping this from getting worse? I keep it covered with grease/rustproofing but it's still progressing. If I took the interior trim off and got something up inside it would that help?

Remove as much as possible if possible.
You can use POR15 (the best) or any rust converter stuff. This is about as good as it gets for now unless metal is removed and replaced.
Should buy some more time!
It's the rust from inside you cant get to that just is impossible to fix once its flake layered. You can convert as much as possible and that will drastically slow it down. Do not seal it from the inside so it can still breathe. But you can pait the outside as you wish.

Past this. Removal, prevention, and fiber glass filler and paint.

When I had my wagon painted, I had the body shop totally remove the rear window to address rust in the corners. So far it has held up well... but I now (retired) avoid driving it in salty, slushy weather as much as I can.
