Hi,

I know, I know...there are tons of information on TDI AVERAGE mileage, most of the time with a very SMALL in percentage of city driving, BUT I didn't see people who do a lot of - almost exclusively I would say - city driving and computed the mileage they came with in THIS environment.

In fact, what I try to achieve is to figure out if it is possible to get a plus or minus 30% economy in the city compared to my 2,5 2007 Rabbit I had which got WAY over 10 liters per 100 km. (I'm a hard driver, very impatient...).

I'm asking because my wife is taking over my car (mostly) - canadian Hihgline TDI Jetta - and her 50 km./day commute is almost all stop and go.

Thanks very much for any information.

City driving I get about 33-34 MPG (7-ish? L/100km not sure... conversions blow). I drive it kinda hard once it is warmed up and my mileage just started to increase at about the 3000 mile mark.

Ive noticed that i normally get about an average of 34mpg with stop and go drive (85% city and 15% highway).... but i am only judging on what the car is telling me..... i just got the car last week and i havent even filled up my car yet.... all i could say is that i have driven about 280 miles in which 20 miles are highway miles and i am on half tank... this gas mileage is much better than my old 2003 Passat GLX which i usually get an average of 23mpg.

I hope that helps.

My driving is almost all city driving. Where I live is mostly flat and there are a lot of wide streets with 35 to 50 mph speed limits. In city driving, my worst tank was about 34 mpg and my best about 38 mpg (7L/100km to 6.2L/100km). My few long highway trips have averaged between 42 and 46 mpg (5.6 to 5.1 L/100km). Terrain, speed, number of stop lights, etc. will all effect the mileage you get. There is no one "right" city mileage. There are too many variables.

Have Fun!

I also primarily do city driving - I am getting about the same as what has been posts above.

I drive almost all 'city' these days unfortunately. My last tank average (500 miles) was 40.5 mpg. That's pretty typical unless it's the dead of winter (worst tank average has been 36.5 mpg during a few nasty weeks in January.) I avoid stop and go suburban sprawls and take the freeways whenever possible. Many of the streets here on the north side of the city have 40 or 45 mph speed limits and fewer lights so I it's a TDI-friendly driving environment. I started a new job a few weeks ago that involves a 25 mile freeway commute (55 to 70 mph) each way at non-peak hours and I've been averaging 44 to 48 mpg per my MFD to and from work. My car has always gotten great mileage for some reason. I don't baby the car at all and try to push it hard whenever I can (which is often :D). "City" can mean so many different things it's almost not a useful term when talking about fuel economy however.

Going on the above post - my city driving MPG (that's listed earlier) is for 90% 25-35 MPH and lots of hills and stop lights. :D

Jbright - while you are right as there is no definition of "city" MPG I feel that yours is in the middle, the so called combined MPG. Which, if you combine the EPA posted city/highway ratings it is 37/38MPG (something like that). I have also noticed that TDI's (diesels in general) get better mileage than EPA ratings while gassers don't quite fair as well.

My driving is about 80-90% city driving. I've got a little over 20K on my 09 and my Fuelly.com average over 64 fuel ups is 34.2 mpg.
