Valve cover gasket successfully changed a few days ago... but, look what I have discovered under the v. cover...
I don't know when it happened or I bought the car like that, but I have searched all the camshaft "pan" for metal pieces with a strong magnet and found nothing. I have no problem with the engine (head/camshaft) work at all, but I'm curious, how could this happen?!

Somebody used the cam lock to hold the cam while tightening the sprocket bolt. It is meant to keep the cam from moving while changing the timing belt, not to resist the torque needed to hold the sprocket on. When it happened the missing piece was probably removed.

Looks like they used a tool other than the timing belt lock. I had the same thing on an ID engine years ago. I put on 200,00 more miles with the cam like that. ;)
