I have decided to pull the trigger on a 2011 Jetta TDI with Nav and the manual 6 speed which will be my first VW. I will be using it as a company car and the savings on gas will really be nice. The stealership near me has several 2010's still in stock amd I can pick one up for less than the new model, but honestly the extra room in the back seat for when I occasionally will have to put an adult back there far outweighed the change in plastic texture.

My only delima is which color? I am torn between the grey and the silver. They have both and from experience I know the silver will look cleaner and shows fewer scratches, but the grey is pretty sharp as well.

We will probably end up with two VW's as the wife has her eye on the beetle convertible and between her and my three daughters it is usually just easier to give in....

By the way this is not my first diesel. I was given a hand me down 1974 Peugot 504 back in highschool and I currently own a 2006 Dodge Megacab Laramie with the 5.9 in it. I will be one of those guys that will Mod my TDI as soon as I can so I will be checking out the board frequently.

Not sure what else, but you'll be getting drum brakes in the back instead of disc.

Silver will show fewer scratches.

It's a personal choice, but you really need to see them in person, if you haven't already. I went with platinum grey because it had a richer, more complex look. They are both attractive, IMHO.

Not true. The TDI has 4 wheel disc brakes. It no longer has IRS.

It's a very nice vehicle. Seems a few hundred cheaper than a comparable 10 model. I'm not a sedan type of person, but if I were I'd go with silver myself.

Interesting ... the one I saw had drum brakes and I was even talking to the service manager about it. Maybe only in Canada.

Not true! Any other guesses?

TDI models have disc all around in Canada, and US.

As for the OP. I got the gray and got min tints all around! Looks great when its clean :)

As for it being a work car! great idea. Thats what i'm using it for. 10000kms in two months already, i get 45cents a kms and so far have paid 650$ on fuel ;) you do the math!

Just went to the local stealership again to check out the colors, Sunday is always a better time here as they are all closed and you can usually find a few of them left unlocked. I have not been able to find either colors with the Nav to see what the extra chrome trim looks like on them with the Nav option.

I am still undecided. I agree the dark grey looks a little richer, but the silver looks sharp as well and will not show scratches. I will probably just go with whichever one is available at the time of purchase.

While I was there I sat in the 2010 as there was one right next to a 2011. I took a closer look at the interior and the door panels is where the difference is most noticeable. The steering wheel also looks a bit unbalanced as the controls are only on one side. I am not sure if the Nav unit has controls on both sides or not.

I am also now undecided about whether or not to get a manual or not... The mileage does not seem to make a difference, but I would have to think that the manual would feel a bit quicker. I will wait to decide on that until I can find a manual to drive.

I will go with the dark interior as I had the light interior on my G35 and it was a bit tough to keep clean.

The one with the NAV has buttons on one side still. All the controls are on the NAV so you dont need the steering buttons. The buttons on the right side of the wheel are for the MFD, the Jetta TDI has mfd but you need to use the stalk on the right had side to scroll thru the options. Compared to the Golf the Jetta has lot less control functions thru the MFD.

I would suggest you talk to Chris at VW of Langhorn and see what he can do for you. Chris has many, many satisfied customers here.

I had a great conversation with him early last year, did not buy because I am in San Diego and shipping cost me too much. BUT, Chris was A-OK to talk with. Only found one other new car sales person who was close to that great. I purchased my first new car in 1969 - I was 21 years old then. So I have had more than a few new cars.

May yet buy a 2011 Jetta Wagon before the TDIFest in Ky. Fly to Pittsburgh and drive to the TDIFest.

Update - Went to a different stealership and drove the 6 speed manual. Talk about a difference! With the manual there was no noticeable turbo lag at all. The 6 speed was seemless and very easy to shift. I thought I would be running through the gears a bit quicker than my G35 M6 as this was a diesel but it did not feel that way at all. I pulled over and let my wife drive for a few minutes and she has not driven a manual in years and also commented on how smooth it was and was able to stop and go without stalling.

I was also concerned about how much room there would actually be in the foot well for the extra pedal. That did not prove to be a problem and I am 6'1.

The had a 2.5L all decked out in Silver on the showroom floor with a pinstripe that really set it off and I am not a pinstripe guy so I am now leaning towards the silver. Especially due to the fact that this is going to be a work vehicle and that color generally looks clean even after it has rained as it does not show much spotting.

I wonder how can a VW Service Manager not know that the 2011 Jetta TDI has rear disk brakes! It's specified in the brochure and the base gas model does indeed have rear drums to keep the costs down.

To me the Silver is a bit too common.
I'd prefer the Platinum Grey Metallic or the Toffee Brown Metallic as both these colours make the Jetta look more up scale (classy).

The Grey limits your interior to Titan Black Leatherette while the Toffee allows you to select the Cornsilk Beige Leatherette which makes the interior much brighter and classier.

If I decide to get the Jetta it'll be the Toffee + Cornsilk Beige Leatherette to make it more unique.
