Buyback Rejected

I made an appointment a month ago (would've done it earlier but today was the earliest I can find) and low and behold they rejected it because my mileage was too high. Next appointment? End of January (for a further dealer). So should I park the car and not drive it until then? This is what VW is doing now? Really? I'm stuck with a car I don't want for even longer?

Yes, I forgot to mention when I signed up for the appointment I put 88,910 miles which was what i had at the time. Today I brought it back with 90,820. Apparently the checks are printed PRIOR to the buyback appointment and because I put so many miles on the car (God forbid I drive it) they need to re-adjust the amount which means I need to do an entirely new appointment.

That's why I chose EFT option, if you go over a milage band, they send you less money, no having to reschedule.

I read somewhere they assume you drive 1000 is miles per month, and if you go more, you get less cash.

Did you get a reminder phone call 2 days before your appointment and were they able to tell you what your final mileage should be? Was your portal reset so you could make another appointment or did the ambassador schedule it for you? Turning mine in next Wednesday and I maybe in the same boat as you.

turned mine in today, Mine is/was an extra car at this point, so milage was only from home to dealer (15 miles or so) and no issue, my return date was today 12/28, the check was printed 12/19, based on previous milage.

No call, no confirmation email.

THe only thing that should have happened for the OP if he was over on estimated mileage is that he would not get a check TODAY, but rather in a couple days when they calculate the proper amount.

So , did you tell them "no check today, no buyback" ?

scooperhsd so if you are over on mileage they/you have the option of them taking the car and sending an updated check to you in a few days and not having to reschedule your appointment?

That's the old school, by-the-settlement way of thinking. You've got to let that go. :D

I think he made the wise decision. Letting them have your car and expecting a check to come in who knows how long seems like a recipe for disaster.

I told them to take the car, do whatever they need to do, mail the check, etc. I was as flexible as ever. The guy kept saying according to the Federal government, blah, blah, blah they can't do it.

I returned my other TDI last Weds. no problem and actually got more money than the buyback letter (I think due to paying another payment on it from the time I made the appointment until buyback day).

They said there was absolutely nothing they can do but to re-schedule for the next available appointment over a month from now. I haven't touched any maintenance since 80,000 miles and the premium for the next 6 months of insurance is due tomorrow for both TDI's and my plan was after dropping off my last TDI today, to take both sets of plates to the DMV and then call my insurance to cancel.

This is extraordinarily frustrating. I didn't get a call or anything prior to bringing the car in. I did put a decent amount of miles on it over the weekend for a NYC to Montreal trip but if they simply took the car and mailed me a check later with the correct amount I would've been all for it.

Anyways I called the settlement phone number and they absolutely cannot squeeze me in an earlier appointment (even though the original TDI took 10 minutes!) and I have to wait. I cannot understand why they have so few appointment slots on only two days a week.

So I decided to remove the plates, park the car and I'll pay the $200 and have it towed to the dealer in February (next available date) and the mileage will be 100% the same as what I put on the portal.

EDIT: The frustrating part is the TDI specialist told me I should've entered on the portal a mileage count that was actually higher because if they need to re-adjust and ADD money, they can send a subsequent check. But they can't do anything if you come in with a lower valued car. The settlement phone number personnel told me not to overstate mileage and type in what the mileage is.

They have since changed this and make you reschedule your appt if you are owed less money and chose paper check

Sorry to hear that. I got my date scheduled, and talked with my dealer (sales rep that sold me the 2012)...leased a 2017 Passat and they allowed me to leave the car at dealership for several weeks till sign over (that way no further miles put on it). I took picture of dash/ODO before I left, and have spare FOB, insurance coverage and papers (title, reg, VW buyback forms).

Don't forget about your Roadside Assistance! You did sign up for the gift cards, right? They came with 3 years Roadside, so you should be able to have your car towed to the dealer.

Note: Sometimes the registration is supposed to be valid, but most drivers don't check for that. Some companies don't care.
