Buyback inspection?

I have a 2012 Passat TDI that unfortunately my wife put a large dent in the rear passenger door. I am scheduled for a buyback, but am wondering what if anything that they are inspecting other than the mileage?

I still have my $500 VW credit and would use it to repair the door if there is a process to reduce my buyback because of this type of damage.

Thank you in advance for your response.

they take off $75 for every dent, $100 for every mm of tread less than 6/32, $200 per wheel that isn't alloy, and $200 if it's dirty.

For the love of dog (I'm dyslexic), there is no buyback inspection. The legal settlement presents NO SUCH PROCESS, requiring only that thr car be drivable under its own power.
There are hundreds of posts discussing this......

But, in fairness, there is at least anecdotal evidence of buyback specialists raising concerns or even going so far as to refuse to complete the buyback due to missing parts.

OP should be fine, of course, since it sounds like minor cosmetic damage that happened legitimately.

My 2012 Passat went back with a decent dent in the rear door. No problem at all.

There is a weird group of about 10 or less users here aggressively pushing FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt) about the turn in process. For what purpose is beyond me, but they are just wrong wrong wrong. Do not listen to the fear mongers. There are NO conditions upon the buyback as it is written legally.

Just turn it in and say nothing.

NO MORE VW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They also take off for body fluid stains

(like where where they put Guido in the trunk)

Made you think didn't we

Honestly they looked so close they misread the odometer as 134,000 instead of 34,000.

Shoulda seen the fear on their faces when we came out of our chairs over that little faux=pa

I got to speak to the TDI specialist at my local dealer the other day and asked him about condition and what they do if there are damaged or missing parts.
I was happy to hear that he is the general manager of all the TDI specialists in our area, and he said that basically if it looks like the person purposely removed parts that were perfectly working and did not replace them, they have the right to deny the car for buy back. Then he said that if the car comes in with obvious legitimate accident damage and as a result has missing parts then it's not a problem. Get rear ended and your rear bumper cover is broken or missing, not an issue. Remove the rear bumper to give it to your neighbor could be an issue! He also said that if you are close to being in a different mileage bracket to do the EFT as they can change the amount on site, if you are over the miles they have to completely reschedule you as they receive the checks already done for the amount calculated.
In short: I wouldn't worry about a dent :)

As long as it has wheels on it, and tires on the wheels, and the tires have enough air in them to roll, you're fine.

They really don't care what wheels are on there people change wheels all the time.

Thanks, Dan! Can I have them call you if there's a problem? ;)
No, but you can have them try to show you where it says the car must have its original wheels--they won't be able to.

In honesty, there's been one person here who's reported a problem returning his car with non-original wheels. But there are many others (including me) who have done so with no problems, and there's simply no basis in the settlements for making an issue of that.

Any updates, our car just got hit in a parking lot and dented the rear fender. I contracted Volkswagen and they said it should be ok. So did anyone that turned their car in the buyback get penalized for any dents?

Never mind, I just reread this thread and say we have some humorous folks out there. :)

we turned our 2015 Golf SEL yesterday evening.
I swapped the 18 inch rims for 16 inch steelies earlier in the week, took the monster mats (replaced with the original mats) Took the spare and the roadside kit, took the cargo cover, cargo blocks.. took one TDI emblem off the back, kept the spare key, took the ipod connector and the 32GB SD card with the nav data on it.

My wife loves the brand and has a gasser Beetle. The rims and tires we kept will direct swap onto hers when we need them and the rest of the random stuff will work on hers too. Or not. Who cares. I kept it.

The inspector started the car, got the mileage and turned down the radio. I had left it turned way up. She raised all the windows. I left them down.

I had a POA for my wife's signature. She didn't even look at it. Fill out the mileage statement, sign a POA for VW. Here's your receipt... would you like to a donut and coffee? Whole thing took 7-8 minutes. The gave us a backpack with some random VW stuff in it and some coupons.

A few of the salesmen that I know were hanging out in case I wanted to drop all that cash on a 2017 Alltrack SEL...

I expected more hassle. It was a really polished and professional transaction.

quick follow up.
I love that Golf. And I probably would have kept it and done the fix... but... Last year we had a bad wreck in it. Random work truck rear ended us while dipsheet was lighting his cigarette at 35 mph and forgot he was operating 6,000 lbs of machinery on a public roadway.

The damage was 9,000$. Insurance almost totaled it.
I would have kept the car but the Carfax is no longer clean as it has accident history, and the seals are not quite right after the wreck. Any hard rain and the inside of the car gets moisture in it. Bad.

And with the headunit, there's absolutely plausible deniability for not having the original; several people on here replaced their RNS-510 and sold it because they had no intention of ever putting it back in. Maybe it failed and the person didn't want to pay the exorbitant amount that a new one costs.

Maybe I'll do that - keep the new one in the box and have it handy in case they balk. If they don't, I can return it. The guys at the dealership know I got rid of the RNS-510 because I hated it so much. :D
