Finally turned mine in today. The process took literally 10 minutes. Moved the car a foot backwards and then forward to show the ambassador that it ran. Now that it is gone the cracked dpf is their problem. And unless I find a pre-owned mk7 Golf R in the right price range I will be looking to a pre-owned BMW 3 series or Mercedes C or E series.
After turning in mine on Wednesday I received the email about 6:30 Thursday night and then received the funds the next day. Surprised me because it was after 8 eastern time when I accepted the etf so I figured the earliest I would see it was either Saturday or the next business day Monday.

I thought about replacing the Golf with a Golf R but ended up getting a 2015 Mercedes C300 4matic. So I guess I am done with VW for a while. No hard feelings it just worked out better getting another brand.

Thanks for all of the helpful members who provided lots of help in this forum over the last few years.

NO MORE VW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The buyback issue will remain open for a long time. One open issue concerns those of us who had to pay for failed items like the DEF heater that are now covered by recalls. I think VW is hoping you'll just move on and forget

How comprehensive is the release of liability you sign when they buy back the car. Does it leave any room for any open issues, or does it close them all.

I'm not sure why this keeps getting posted, but it is incorrect....I wasn't willing to test the other issues, this one I can prove damages. VW doesn't want to play this game, trust me.
In the long run, in the eyes of the court or any administrator, you're clean as a whistle.

In the short term, do you really want to deal with a blemish on your credit that you might involve additional time and effort tho remove?

It's like crossing the street on a green light but in front of a speeding car. You're in the right, but also at risk of getting hit.

The big question is, does the lender get the funds and show paid in full at the same time that you get the difference deposited?

For those of you who have scheduled december appointments, was it possible to pick a date around christmas and new years?

I ask because I might need to do the same next year (sell back between 22 December and 31 December 2017).

I'm willing to fight this fight if it comes to that because I'm 100% sure I will prevail in court. The other issues with VW could really go any way, like the stripping question everyone was wanting answered. VW still has 11 days before they ding my credit and I honestly don't think it will come to it being an issue, but I am prepared to head to court over this one.

This may play out a little like the stripper scenario, where somebody needs to cross the line to see what will happen.

I think of VW Credit as a big dumb machine that notates late payment / non-payments on a schedule, i.e. no human intervention to say "oh, he's a buyback customer." It's baffling they're not set up to post payoff payment via internal transfer on day one.

When I called after the EFT was complete, I spoke to two "high level" managers on two separate occasions. I was told that all they could do was make a note on my file, so my concerns are recorded on their end as well and attached to my file. They claimed that they have no way to stop the credit ding as it's an automatic process. They also said that there's been little communication between VWoA and VW Credit, which I find to be strange, but not really considering the stories we've heard for this whole process. I agree that they should have set up at least a separate section within VW Credit to deal with buyback customers for these very issues.

I'm sticking to my guns on this one, because I no longer possess the vehicle and have receipt of the turn in. Otherwise, I'd simply pay the note.

I'm pretty sure the recall allows you to be reimbursed if you paid out of pocket for this issue.

2014 Wagen,

I posted my buyback date a few posts ago but I forgot that it's basically useless information. Both mine and suesrn3's buyback dates are contingent on the available slots and I'm not talking about others customers reserving ahead of you.

The dealer I chose only offers buybacks on Wednesday. A few other dealerships had different days. suesrn3 probably noticed when scheduling that availability is only offered on Fridays (or maybe Wednesdays and Fridays, for example).

So the best answer to your question is going to hinge on you going through your local dealers and finding out which days they are going to offer buyback slots and then align that with a calendar (and then of course it's all going to be subject to availability of those slots, but this is really the last concern from a list as hopefully I've adequately explained).

You might be able to do this through the site when you get your offer letter. But you can also call your dealerships and ask whoever answers the phone. I first found out about specific days when a sales lady called me to talk about some Passat deals. I told her I was waiting for my buyback still and she told me as an off-hand remark that they were all set up and ready for us and hoped it would be soon (and that it was only on Wednesdays).

That comment made me hop on to the site and peruse the various dealers around me to see how I could best get it done with the least amount of hassle. All the appointments were during normal work hours (at least in San Diego) and none on weekends. I'm a little over a hundred miles from the closest dealerships, my wife works during the day, and I'm taking care of our newborn until next semester. Right now, my best plan is to call VW Roadside Assistance, have them pick up the JSW, and then trail behind in my bug.

I wouldn't call it a complicated scenario but I would plan on a certain level of logistical planning to minimize any inconveniences it's going to cause. I just wanted to clarify that our Dec. 28th and 30th turn-in dates probably shouldn't be read as a "no problem" kind of answer to your question.

Bring, can you tell me where you did your buy back? I am scheduled for the 30th and would like to avoid what you are going through!
Thanks
Minuteman in Bedford. The buyback specialist, Kristina, travels around though.

The dealer really has nothing to do with it.

Thx - not optimistic - VW was not prepared to handle any issues with the actual buyback transaction at the dealer

Well if you are willing to take a hit to your credit you can sue them under the FCRA. But as others have said I would rather not risk going that route if you don't have to.

After all is said and done, the TDI will always be a rebel.

It's the last song my TDI played. Without even planning it, just before making the last turn into the dealer, my Johnny Cash greatest hits CD played "The Rebel Johnny Yuma".

reminded me of PKhoury, the guy with the goats.

There's a middle finger from Cash to the EPA.

Coincidentally, the last song to come on my Xm on the way to the dealer was Deftones My own summer, I damn near blew the speakers...

Bizzle and the rest, thanks a lot for the information.

I know it's a ways away, just thinking ahead as that particular window might save me a lot of money based on my current situation.

Good advice about talking to real people early.. if they seem less than ready to give a firm date maybe you could allude to it being an important date and wanting to purchase a new car at the same time? Only if necessary due to poor customer service... wouldn't want to be too unethical about it.

Had 2010 Jetta
I'm no longer a Jetta TDI Owner as my transaction was completed on the 20th, EFT direct deposit completed on Friday morning the 23rd by Chase. Over all a good experience and VW did "Make it Right". Now I'll miss the 600mi range and get a gas car with approx 1/2 that range. Still, after the VW emissions gets sorted out, I may pick up another Jetta TDI in a year or so.

Sold our TDI back to VW on December 22nd. Arrived early and had the check in our credit union before the scheduled appointment time. Guys were commenting about how nice our car looked.

Next day, went to Midlothian and picked up our 2013 Miata GT. Do not recommend Haley Toyota. They required us to go through the OFAC. Not required for a cash sale. Wife was pissed. In addition they ran the battery down because whomever processed the car left the ignition on, and both seat warmers were on. They jump started it and left engine running then to charge up the battery. Car and battery seem to be fine now. Only 8,800 miles on it from original owner.

Now have all Japanese: 2005 Tacoma, 2016 Mazda3 sGT, 2013 Miata GT and JD 2025R tractor (all Japanese parts; assembled here).
