The odometer read 178,890 as I pulled into the VW dealer in Falmouth. Greg was great and had all of the paperwork ready. He started it and pulled it up near the door, confirmed the VIN, took some pictures, confirmed the mileage. He complimented how good it looked considering it's age and the harsh Maine winters. We then signed the forms, I handed him the title and he handed us the check for exactly what was promised. Could not have been any easier. Sad to know that its final destination is the crusher, but I guess all cars end up there at some point.

The service group from VW took our title - signed Power of Attorney - removed and brought in our plates and took pictures of the VW. Then she entered into VW return web site. Web site went down before she could complete her entries. She called and was told server went down. After server came back up 90 minutes later, she could not access our file and could not complete the transaction. They got a ticket from their IT department that was to complete the transaction later last night. We would get confirmation via email that it was complete. No email yet. She was able to process other returns after ours. We are now in limbo. Does anyone know who runs the buy back program for VW. I'm looking for someone to call to fix this.

I came out here to write that I finally received my EFT today, and then I saw this post.

All I can say is hopefully my experience was an anomaly, and yours get solved quicker.

I turned my car in on 12/19 but they could not enter my mileage on the tablet. They told me I would have my receipt the next morning so I left my car there. I ended up finally getting my receipt late last week. My guess is holiday vacations were the biggest problem, as I don't think anyone was working on it.

But... What a shame. This was going to be the last car I was ever going to buy. At 67K miles the engine was just broken in. Averaged 46 MPG. Best tank went 927 miles @55.5mpg.

*sigh*
Yeah ~~ me too

But still might do the "fix." ~~~ then it will surely be my last new ride.

At least I do not have to make up my mind for many months:eek::rolleyes::confused:

No more VW, no more diesel
Illlinois has no dino diesel, Gas stations are not really far between, but not every one has a bio diesel.. with 5 to 20% of corn content
Not to be anal, but most bio-diesel is not made with corn. They use corn to make ethanol which goes into gasoline. Bio-diesel is usually made from rapeseed in the US, or other similar feed stocks. While I avoid ethanol in my gas cars (there are stations thats ell ethanol free gas including a new Maverik just a 2 miles from my house, if that), I like bio-diesel and for a while made sure I put a little in my JSWs. Higher lubricity amongst other things. Used to run up to 100% in my 2000 Dodge RAM 2500 with the Cummins, and 20% in my 2006 Dodge RAM 2500 with the Cummins, but in the JSW I would just put a gallon or 2 of B20 in with my normal D2.

One of the best looking VW Jettas ever conceived, just like my 2009 Jetta TDI, with 160K miles..

I dunno what happened at VW after 2010, but they really jacked up the design of their cars.. The A4 body style looked more like an Audi which I liked. The newer styles starting in 2011 made it look like a lame Honda or other ricer.

If I wasn't such a poor man these days. I'd keep the car, find some place to get an inspection sticker every year, put an APR Stage 1 tune on it with a DSG tune. Replace the headlights with some kind of LED/Projection kit, give it another coat of paint, and proceed to put another 160K miles on it...

I had a Saturday appointment in Muscle shoals AL. I was 45 minutes early because I anticipated road problems coming from Huntsville. There were none. In and out in 5 minutes. E-mail before I left from them with pay out amount. Monday at 6 PM I had an e-mail from Chase. Set up the account and has now shown as pending in my personal bank account. It should clear tomorrow. Now I wait to see how long the VW credit account takes to get paid. Other than the wait my process was very smooth.

Could not agree more Tex. I drove a MK VI as a rental and hated it. Lousy handling with that non-IRS (it is an option), and all the personality of a pop-up toaster. I drove a couple when I was looking for another vehicle and could not make myself like the damn thing. I told the sales guy that they lost my business when they abandoned the concept of a Golf-with-a-trunk. And, if I wanted a Honda Accord like transportation appliance, I'd buy a Honda Accord. Ironically, I ended up buying a Buick Regal with a 6-speed manual.

Anyone else not get full amount?

Turned car in last month, sat at dealer's lot till yesterday when I met with TDI program person, turned in title, signed off. Received Chase's email and BEFORE I complete...I am showing that they are holding 2 payment amounts worth to go to lender. (over $900) The lender is VW Credit. The loan was paid off before the date of turn in notification. I also had received a letter of loan satisfaction from VW Credit, and most importantly, the clear title (which was turned in with car). So, I called my claim number in and they are like, I understand sir but you need to call VW credit. He assured me that they will help and likely refund the over payment. Anyone else have this happen? Can you verify that VW Credit indeed refunded the overpayment after loan satisfaction? "no good deed goes unpunished"...

Returned mine today... fairly uneventful but I was nervous for the whole 45-mile trip praying for no mechanical issues (car had been sitting for 4 months). :D

Gas vs Diesel i.e. ~~ regarding cars that are NOT being driven

Gas has got the upper hand ~~ IMO

It's the other way around. Diesel is a stable, non volatile product, not too far refined from crude.

Gasoline, on the other hand, is highly refined. It evaporates readily, breaks down into lower refined states, and is far more volatile.

With all these people trading in their low fuel consuming vehicles for high fuel consumption I wonder what it will do to the price of gasoline. Hopefully it goes up dramatically. Winter has been cooler as well so far which should raise Natural Gas prices.

Hopefully it goes up?? Who does that benefit??
Well I own 100 shares of Chevron stock and some Staoil and Occidental Petroleum as well. So it would benefit me. As I only go into work 2 days a week and it is a short drive the price at the pump is not really too relevant to me.

Colder winter tends to make diesel prices go up as in the Northeast they use home heating oil for heat and home heating oil is basically diesel without the automotive additives so it stresses the diesel supplies.

The number of low-consuming vehicles being taken off the road as a result of the buyback is minuscule in terms of the overall number of vehicles. This won't make a dent.

Turned in Jetta Sport Wagon today. It was a sad moment. It never let us down. Pretty painless. I think it took 10 minutes total. Guy took our license plates for us handed us our Diesel Check and wished us well. We didn't see what he looked at because it was raining and we waited inside.

If they fixed the car someone will be getting a great car as it was in perfect shape we even put two new tires on it 3 weeks ago.

My turn-in was scheduled for 1730 today, 1/11.

I arrived at the dealer at 1645. My wife showed up at 1700.

We were in her Touareg and heading home by 1715.

Could not have been easier/quicker/smoother.

Turned in at Staten Island 1/11 1630.Took all of 15 minutes. The only way VW could have made this any easier is if they had sent two representative to my home/workplace and personally collected the vehicle. After owning nothing but VW for 42 years it was with a hint of sadness to turn in such a great car.I have now leased for the first time.so will see how that transpires.
BTW,my last three Golfs were purchased from Chris Farnham in Langhorne.whom many of you will know.
My latest Golf was supplied by Bill Gaffney and Michael Sclafani @ Paul Miller VW of Bernardsville NJ.

Outstanding.

I highly recommend them.

Wow. I wish mine was that fast. Mine was over an hour. She had appointments every hour on the hour and I assume she was almost over or over on timing for them all.

Turned in our 2013 JSW yesterday - no issues. Was there an hour and a half earlier - snow was coming and the tires on the car were bald. While I was waiting for my time, I overheard an older couple turning in their car. They were told there was an issue with the title and they would have to start all over - felt so sorry for them - they had already taken the plates off the car and had to put them back on. Will miss driving a stick the most - put money down on our replacement CPO 2014 BMW 328i xdrive Sport Wagon (I was hoping for a 328d, but could not find one with the options I wanted in my price range). Thanks for this board - was very helpful!
