My Passat is gone today. Same experience as original poster, but I did get some more tdibits. sorry if it's already been discussed in previous pages.

The guy said the cars are all being transported to Portland, OR for repairs. After repair, the dealers will get the first chance to buy and resell them. Any cars leftover go to auction. Any cars failing to be purchased at auction get crushed.

The rep said he's taking in 10 cars per day, 6 days a week and is booked well into next year. The buyback start for the 3.0L engines in January, so he expects to be booked way out into summer. He said he was approached by a headhunter and the interview process took 3 days. Guy is a tax accountant by day job.

Another thing he said, "the fix will reduce mpg by 20% and power by 50hp". lol. I guess we'll see.

The rep told us VW has rented about 2500 or 2700 warehouses. I guess eventually we'll know.

It seems silly to transport them all to one place, then redistribute them for sales later... Figure there would be regional warehouses and then let the dealers do the work? Whatever I guess. I'll have to keep an eye on Copart when the fix is approved and cars are retrofitted.

Yes, I believe that's what he said, warehouse's rented all over.

I think any cars that VW buys back and intends to fix will be fixed by the company itself at central locations.

I thought they could not resell cars that were not "fixed". Does that mean that, before they go to auction, they must be "fixed", or can they be sold at auction as non street legal parts cars?

Returned JSW #1 today in South Jordan UTAH at SouthTowne VW

Appointment at 3:30pm. I was about 6 minutes late and the wife another 5-8 minutes after me (we are both on it -- I was a bit more aggressive in driving there to get things started but I hit every red light I could possibly hit). Guy was not worried. He said they are scheduled 1 per hour and we were done in about 15 - 20 minutes after we actually started. Really nice, retired sort of gentleman was the buyback specialist and he had recently had a knee replacement so he was taking it easy. He took the guy with the next appointment, who was already there, after we were done and he was about 25 minutes early.

I didn't "strip" beyond the jack, spare, my cargo blocks and mat, and the all weather mats (put the normal cr*p mats back in that the car came with). Also took the first aid kit and stuck it in the Audi. I wanted to trade wheels/tires but had a hard time finding affordable used stuff (no steelies in the valley, new or used, that I could find) so just skipped it.

Money was right on. No one from the dealership accosted us though the specialist himself, as we were walking away asked if we needed help with a new car. I explained we had already purchased an Audi, which was why the JSW had been partially parked, as I had already explained to him. He said at least we "had kept it in the family."

All in all a painless process. Email receipt was there before we left. Did not get a paper receipt. Still waiting for the Chase email. The specialist gave me a VW business card with his name, and the Chase phone number on it in case there were issues.

JSW #2 on Jan 14. Same dealership.

I don't like this dealership, which is why I chose them (that and it is a little closer to my house than the other one in the SL Valley). I would have felt bad telling the other dealership salesmen (one of whom I kind of know and I also kind of know one of the sales manager types) that we already bought a car, but I had no such hard time telling the guys at this dealership.

Do you mean the receipt or the JPMC email? I had an email receipt before I left the dealer. You should call the dealer and ask the rep about that I think.

I mean receipt.

This thing has been a major cluster f@%!

The buy back agent's tablet had issues entering my mileage. So she took a photo of the dashboard display and sent it in to VW. They said they are working on it, but for some reason it's still not resolved.

I turned my '15 Golf in yesterday at the dealership where I had bought a mere two years ago. The process went smoothly, although the guy handling my turn-in messed up when it came time to print a receipt, which I had gotten immediately in an email so that was no big deal. He did photograph the car and commented on how it looked brand new. As I was leaving, the salesman who had sold me my car two years ago noted that the ambassador had failed to remove my plates and, remarking how sad it made him to have to remove the plates from what really is a great car, took them off the car and handed them to me. This was yesterday late morning so I'm still waiting for the Chase email.

The dealer staff "ambassador" mentioned that our car turned in on Sat was going to be picked up on Mon from dealer lot and obviously going to some regional location for it's next step in it's life.

The place I turned in yesterday had a car carrier truck and it appeared they were putting them on immediately. The Ambassador said something to that effect but I had not seen the truck until driving away. They don't stick around long.

It makes sense that the cars would be fixed in a few regional locations.

It simplifies the supply chain for the needed parts vs. having those parts scattered among 1,000 dealers.

VW can train some technicians to do the fix, and keep them working on it all day every day. That's how people get good at a process - doing a limited number of things often.

It also facilitates removal of parts from cars marked for the crusher to replace damaged body panels, seats, wheels, etc. on cars that are to be fixed and resold.

Hope it gets resolved for you quickly, bring. Its like getting your bags lost by the airline just as you are about to board the cruise ship where you will be at sea for six weeks, and you have no second change of clothes.

Just completed my buyback at 1PM. I was in at 1 and out like 3 minutes later. I got the receipt in my email within the first minute of being there. A salesperson removed my plate and gave it back to me and shook my hand and that was it. Nobody tried to sell me a car or anything. Pretty quick and painless process.

I know at my local dealer they stated there are immediately going on a truck and to a storage location somewhere on the other side of the Tappan Zee Bridge

I am not driving a Jetta, but the 1.4 VW engine is quite nice for the size.

I'm guessing it will be fine for this ol' geezer ~~ MPG, TORQUE, & HP speaking ~~ Hate to give up my SILVER color:(

The back up CAM is a step up in the swap ~~ 2 years newer than my 2015 Golf.

Back to 36 months BUMPER to BUMPER ~~ Was scheduled for Summer-Fall 2018 with 5000 - 10,000 miles. At $25,275.53

It's under 5,000 miles NOW ~~ do not understand if that will change the Buy Back amount:confused:

Doubtful

Yes, I got a Jetta S with a 5 sp. manual trans as basically a clean trade for my 2009. The deal was $14,500 with heated seats and switching out the standard steel rims for the alloy rims from my TDI. I'm very impressed with the 1.4 engine. Better highway mileage (44-46 mpg) than my TDI and decent torque (184 lbs.) peaking at 1,400 RPM. YOu notice you are not in a TDI when you load it up and both the mileage and acceleration take a noticeable hit. It handles better than the TDI, but the interior has lots of hard plastic (not too noticeable). Wasn't planning on another VW -- unless they gave me a new one. Yes, this is a trade down, but it's a new car to replace an 8 year old car with a questionable fuel pump, exhaust flap, wintercooler kit etc.

Just completed the return at Ancira Volkswagen in San Antonio. They have TWO ambassadors because they are the largest volume dealer in south Texas. This part of the process was extremely smooth and very quick. Got my receipt email while sitting there with the ambassador. Absolutely NO approaches from any salesmen. Excellent experience. Kudos Ancira Volkswagen.

2016 Mazda 3 Hatchback 2009 Jetta TDI--Bought back 12/21/16
My appointment was for 3:30 today. Showed up at about 3:10; buyback rep addressed me by name. Took me outside, had me start the vehicle, reset the trip odometer to 0, and then snapped a picture of the odometer. She also had me hang a card from the mirror stating "This Vehicle Not For Sale" with the claim# written on it.

She then had me back it out of the parking space and took one photo from each side, front, right, rear, and left. Then I pulled it back into the space and we went inside to complete the paperwork. Paper work took all of 5 minutes. She printed a receipt for me and explained the process for EFT and gave me a card with her name and with Chase's number (in case of problems) on it. I checked my email on my phone and also had an email receipt.

I told her it was great car and she said all of the people returning them said the same thing and that they were sad to part with them. She said including me she had 8 buybacks scheduled today (Camelback VW, in the heart of Phoenix).

She appeared to be training someone the whole time who mainly watched. After she was done with me I saw her explaining things to the person. As they have her training others, I assume she knows the process well and did it correctly.

She introduced me to the Ambassador, who removed the plate (no front plates in AZ) and had me check one last time for personal items. He asked if I had purchased another car and I said "Yes, a Mazda 3." He just replied, "Those are great cars."

Whole thing was handled very professionally.

Oh, before i took the car in I popped the hood and had one last look at the engine. Noticed the coolant reservoir was almost empty; this is a new development. Probably the water pump is starting to go. I didn't have any problems with the car since I bought it and it appears I returned it just in time to avoid one.
