09 TDI sedan, sold back 12/16. Present cars 2013 BMW X5 diesel, 2015 Corvette convertible
The dealer manager at the VW-Chevrolet dealer knows me by sight and name. Maybe because it is a smaller dealership, and I get my Corvette serviced there. When I showed up early to my turn in, he greeted me, I greeted him, and told him I was there for a turn in. Then, I told him, honestly, that I may be interested in a Chevy Bolt or a Cruze diesel hatchback, when they come on the market. That precluded any discussion of immediate need for a replacement vehicle.

And I actually am interested in a Bolt or Cruze hatchback diesel, and would love to give him the business.

Car was bought back on the 15'th. Ambassador had all the paperwork filled out already except for odo. He explained the process, then got the keys and went out to start the car and pull the odo value. I signed the paperwork, the sales person went out to the car and pulled the plates and that was it. The sales person gave me her card and said that if there was anything she could do for me to let her know.
It was a very pleasant experience.

The only hiccup was when the ambassador came back in with a very puzzled look on his face as there was no place to stick the key ...

He had never seen one with KESSY....

I'll see him again next week and then again 2 weeks after that. (I'm the designated shuttle driver for the other 2..)

I will seriously consider another VW in a few years. For now it is time to replace the 190000 mile Jeep with a fresh one....

Turned our 2012 Golf TDI in today. Pretty uneventful, other than the dealer having a blatantly obvious script ready for every buyback customer who walks through the door. They were friendly enough, but took a swing at us walking in, and tried again on the way out.

Just waiting on our money from Chase now. The buyback rep gave us a printed receipt on the spot, a business card with her name on it, a customer service number, and a phone number for Chase in case there was an issue with the EFT. I felt bad for her- she seemed kinda bored.

All in all a really nice car that we enjoyed for 82,000 miles. We replaced it with an Audi Q5 3.0T. It gets half the fuel economy, but hot damn it's a nice car. Quiet, fast, and comfortable.

I've also mostly enjoyed lurking here for the past several years. Learned a lot of great stuff.

Take Care...

Went with my son for buyback on 2009 Jetta TDI I gave him 4 years ago. He had recently decided to go with a new 2016 Jetta and we had no problems at the dealership - he had already bought it. Went as described by others. In and out in 15 minutes. He got his money deposited to his account 2 days later.

Did my buyback today. The nice woman processing my information could not get the application to load the mileage. It kept giving her an error message. She then called VW tech support, but to no avail. So she had the guy on the phone take down the info, and I'm supposed to be getting my receipt tomorrow morning.

So I spoke to VW credit today to get a zero balance letter for my warranty cancellation.

Here are some interesting things you might want to know:

1. VW credit does not currently have my car paid off, and I still legally own the car, though I no longer possess it. That will remain until VW of America sends the payoff amount to VW credit, which they have no idea as to the timeline or even an approximate date.

2. VW credit does not care for VW of America because my credit rep said that VW of America isn't communicating at all with VW credit, and they no almost nothing. Sounds familiar?

3. VW credit WILL ding your credit if you go beyond the 10 day grace period, even if you no longer possess the car. So if you're close, you better make sure you contact VW credit and notate it on your file, or make a payment.

4. The extra payment (payment overage) is processed 24-48 hours after receiving payoff, and usually is mailed within 7-10 business days following the payoff being applied to the account.

@TDIsoup -- do you mind updating us when your VW credit account is paid off? Could I trouble you to ping this thread when that happens:

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=471456

I'm hoping they don't take too long, since in my case, I'm expecting I'll have to make another payment, and as of today, I don't even own my car... so I wonder how long VW will draw this out?

I was placed on hold for 10 LONG minutes, and they elevated my questions to a "high level manager". I was told that they placed a note on my file, but that there's little they can do until VW of America processes the payoff with them. I'll update when the payoff is complete. My Chase account was processed tonight so the counter starts this evening.

Done and done! Showed up 30 minutes early and the guy was free so we took care of it. Didn't even finish my cup of coffee and we were done - 10 minutes total time. No loan and I had already filled in all the paperwork except the final miles so that made it quick.

Replaced a couple of weeks ago with a lapiz blue Golf R that I'm really enjoying - except at the gas pump!

Good luck everyone!

As others have said... Done and Done.
.
Mon Oct 17- Uploaded Docs
Wed Nov 2- Docs accepted
Tues Nov 15- Final Offer received
Tues Nov 15- Notarized Offer returned, 4 hrs later received email saying docs rejected due to an error. It took me 2 days of calling the claims number to find out what the error was.
Thurs Nov 17- Corrected error and re-uploaded Notarized Offer.
Sun Nov 27- Received email to schedule return, soonest available date was Dec 16th.
Fri Dec 16- 4:45pm returned car to dealer, I was late for my 4:30 appt. It took less than 10 minutes to process, buyback agent was prepared and efficient, printed out the receipt and wished me well. No contact with anyone from the dealership.
Mon Dec 19- 8:30pm- Received email from Chase my VW funds were available.
Mon Dec 19- 9:30pm- Registered on Chase site and uploaded my banking info.
Tues Dec 20- 5:30am- Funds in my bank. :)
.
I am glad this is over, I enjoyed driving the car back to the dealership, reminded me how much I am going to miss the car. I really liked the car and if it didn't have so many issues, and possible expensive issues, I would have kept it and avoided the 'fix'. I guessing the 'fix' will include better lock down of ECU to make it more difficult to tune out the fix.
.
I also want to thank all who posted their experiences in this process for others to learn from to make the process easier/smoother for all who followed.

Has anyone experienced issues with the mileage not accepting in the tablet app? The woman who was processing my buy back yesterday said the VW tech support person told her that it was happening elsewhere too.

I did my buyback on the 17th. I dropped the car off the night prior due to snow being in the forecast. When I got there the buyback guy had already taken a look at the car and done everything that he needed to do. All I did was fill out the statements and we were on our way. The money showed up in the bank this morning (20th).

Good to know, I figure by waiting the process will smooth out a good bit...

For me, the actual buyback process was a non-event. It was the rest of the process that was slow. I did everything at the first possible moment and it took about a month per step for the initial steps and then about 10 days for the final offer upload to be approved. They even let me go back to the car to get the one cd that I had left in the changer. I never listened to it, but I also never took it out.

Wish I got the check!

My buyback was on Friday December 16 at 4:30. I have still not received the chase e-mail. Should I be concerned? Or is it normal to sometimes take for than 1 business day?
Today is the second day. I was thinking to call tomorrow if I don't receive the e-mail tonight but it seems like everyone who turned the car in Friday and even Saturday already got the money. This whole process has been nerve wrecking! I wish I just got the check!

With the $$ in the account today - we are officially done with this whole #Dieselgate issue. The process was pretty painless in reality just really unfortunate with a car we really enjoyed.

It's replacement is behind our former TDI JSW.

My buyback was completed today, took about 20 minutes and everything went just like how all others have reported. my final buyback amount was $200 less than the signed paperwork and apparently it was due to mileage. At this point oh well.

my location printed and I got an email receipt at the time of buyback. now just to wait for the EFT.

Good Luck to the rest of everyone with their buyback process..

My buyback was completed yesterday. Took all of 15 minutes, and was painless. Plus, my total was about $500 more than my offer letter (been parked for a couple months). Receipt showed up in my email before I even left the desk. Now just waiting on the email from Chase.

Ended up picking up a 2017 GTI while I was there as well.

My experience went the same as sdlucky7, except I didn't buy anything. Went in today, sat down with the Buyback specialist, he looked over my paperwork, walked outside looked over the car, grabbed the mileage, inputted it into his tablet, my offer ended up being $200 more then the original offer letter. Now just waiting for my email from Chase.

In and out in 10 min. Waiting on the email from chase, had I known it would have taken this long for EFT I would have requested a check. I did remove the cargo liner and the jack and my Weathertech floor liners. I still have my original rubber mats never used. Both mats and floor liners are going on Craigslist. I like the 2010 jack better than the one in my 2015 Jetta TDI, since I'm going to keep it I will use the jack in it. But as far as I can tell you can strip the car and long as you can drive it to the dealership. I dont even think they verify you still have the TDI engine under the hood. Now Im waiting on when they will fix my 2015 and give me $7,000 more back in my pocket.

Oh and I used Uber and the ride home was FREE because new users get up to $22 or $25 off the first ride!

My receipt:
Vehicle: 2010 Jetta Sedan 4D TDI
VIN: 3VWRL7AJ1AM118794

SELECTED OPTION - BUYBACK. Under the buyback option, Volkswagen of America, Inc. repurchased your vehicle for a total of $14,900.00 as broken down below:
$ 9,800.00 Vehicle Return Amount
$ 5,100.00 Additional Restitution Payment
$ 0.00 Total Amount Before Loan PayOff
$ 0.00 Total Outstanding Loan Amount on
$ 0.00 Amount VW Will Pay Your Lender
--------------------------------------------------------
$ 14,900.00 Amount VW Paid You

MILEAGE. The vehicle mileage at the time of vehicle return was: 80622 miles.

Buyback complete. Appointment was 10 minutes. We got $530 more than our offer letter, (the amount matched the buyback calculator). We dropped a mileage bracket because the car has been parked since August.
For anyone interested in the timeline:
Docs submitted 9/21
Docs accepted 10/20
Offer letter received 11/25
Offer letter uploaded 11/26
Offer letter accepted/appointment made 12/6
Buyback complete 12/20
Loan with VW credit
Our 5 year old son yelled "Bye Felicia!" as we drove off. :D:D

Completed in 15 minutes tonight, nothing exciting to report. The only interesting thing was the buyback person told me they are now fully booked until the end of March. She is processing 8 cars a day, and the Audi dealership down the street will have 12 to do this Friday. She fluctuates between Wellesley VW in Mass and some CT VW dealer in Plainfield, CT. The Passat was very good time me, and I drove her hard. When I was done the buyback person introduced me to the dealers Ambassador (was the sales manager). He inquired if I was in need of new transportation, I said unfortunately not...he was done with me at that point. The person whom had the appt. before me was in the process of buying something in the corner. That's it, just going to wait for my money now.
Looking forward to tomorrow, finally gonna drive the new Jag XF I bought 20 days ago...time to pull that cat out of the garage...

Good luck everyone, take care, thank you for all the information and advice. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and prosperous, and healthy new year. Best - Jeffrey

My Chase deposit is in my bank account and I still have the full outstanding balance on my account, so they aren't the same transaction. I called again today, and the woman told me there is no timeline for when VWoA will send them the payoff. She suggested that the easiest thing would be to keep checking the online account, which will reflect the payoff after 24 hours of posting. If a few more days go by, I'm going to start getting antsy. Right now, it's only been 2 business days, so I'm not really worried yet.

Turned in one of my cars today. I had the paper work printed out and signed.. she said I didn't need it because she had everything already filled out, which she did. All we had to do was sign her documents.. in and out in 15 minutes. She gave me a receipt and I also got a receipt via email before I had gotten home.

She gave us her card which she also had the chase number on it.. just in case.
