I turned my 2011 TDI in today at 3:00 PM.
My offer letter was $18,706.73 (car had 77480 miles) and the receipt letter was $18,256.73 which is $450.00 less. The dealer said just call the !800 number and they will likely give you a top check to cover the difference.

I called the 1-844-982-5246 number and the lady had no idea, and had to ask for a supervisor. The response was that I did not read the fine print that stated again in very fine print "If you turn your car in before December 15th, there is a 450 - 500 less payout. I never seen this so called fine print. I guess that is why the previous 3 earlier appoints gaveled their return appointment.

Had I known this, i would have stripped the car.

Very frustrating.
There is no such fine print! Check my experience out, sounds about like yours.

I turned mine in on Thursday, signed up for EFT Saturday morning, and got paid this morning. Overall, an easy process.

My appointment was today, Dec 3 @ 2pm at Langway Volkswagen - Chevrolet in Manchester Center Vermont.
That's about 1/4 mile from my sister's house. Maybe I should switch turn-in dealers, I won't need a ride at least! :)

The dealer manager there, Russ, is a great guy. In addition to getting my VW service there, they service my 2015 Corvette. Russ knows me by sight and by name. First time I have ever experienced that at a car dealer, and I have been visiting car dealers for 50 years.

To my disappointment, they will not be selling the Chevy Bolt. Apparently too much training and shop equipment needed for a small dealer that might only sell a couple of them a year. But they will be getting in the diesel Equinox and Cruze cars, both of which are also on my radar.

Langway is where I just bought a new GTI to replace the Jetta, when ever VW finally gets around to making a offer. Nice low pressure dealership, its where I got the TDI from when it was still Hand VW.

Its now 10am Monday. My car has been with them since 1030am Friday and still no email link.
Anyone think funds will hit my account before Christmas?! Buyback 12/20 at 11:30 am.
It'll be 20 days from dropoff time to process the paperwork, then 20 days for the independent auditor to review and sign off, and then finally 20 days for the money to be transferred via electronic carrier pigeon to your financial institution. The pigeon then has 20 days to peck out your account number on the computer.

It should. Email from Chase within ~24 hours and then 1-2 business days after that. I turned in Thursday 12/1 at 4:15pm, email 24 hours later, initiated transfer and funds were in my account Monday morning. You don't have a weekend delaying transfer so I'd bet it clears by the 23rd if not the 22nd.

Done and done! Submitted the EFT information to Chase for my little local community back on Saturday and it is in the account today! Turn in on 21/1 funded on 12/5.

Thanks to all of the contributors on this site. There are some really knowledgeable people that will be missed. There are ton of whiners on this site that will not be missed.

Adios!

For those of us with privet loans, do they call your bank during car check it to verify final pay off amount? Since my notarized offer I made an additional payment, so pay off amount is less then stated on the offers received

If they do not reflect that last payment in your buyback amount, then your lender was "overpaid". If the lender is overpaid, the lender should refund the overpayment to you.

Same here, turned the car in Thursday at 2:00pm. No acknowledgement email, no EFT email, no nuthin'
For those who have not turned in their car yet, the email receipt happens instantly when the offer is submitted electronically by the Specialist. Do not leave the dealership without a receipt

Ride home?

Quick question for anyone who drove alone in their TDI to VW dealer to turn it in: did the dealer offer to shuttle you home? (just curious as to alternatives to Uber or inconveniencing my wife . . .) Thanks.

No, the dealer staff is supposed to be hands off on turn ins. I know the people there. i arranged for a neighbor to come pick me up and drive me home. Its 25 miles from the dealer back to my house.

I took the courtesy shuttle home, I told the receptionist I had just returned a TDI and would appreciate a ride home.

However, while the dealer staff is not supposed to initiate contact with you, nothing bars you from initiating contact with them. So you could ask for a ride if your options are poor.

This is what happened to you, or are you speculating?

This is standard for any lender. They are banks. You have an account with an amount owed. If they are overpaid they will refund you. Don't stress... It happens pretty regularly with insurance settlements or other things.

Indeed. Just called my return dealership (Cary, NC) and they said they'll be happy to shuttle me home.

I have no doubt the bank will issue a refund -- they always do -- but I expect it to be to VW, not the borrower. Is this not the case?
