I completed the buyback today and the amount was one mileage bracket off from the offer letter amount.

Before I go through the hassle of trying to get the $275 difference, can someone please clarify if the buyback happened today 12/2/2016 is that 15 or 16 months from Sept 2015?

sept -- sept is 12

In my calculation of it (and the popular online GitHub based calculator defaults as well to it

They needed it originally to validate the buyback but current state doesn't seem to matter and honestly, why would it.
When I called the 1-844 claim number someone I spoke to on the line from VW told me registration needed to be current. I suspected she could still be wrong even though she said she checked with her supervisor, etc.

It mattered to me because it still seems that there is or at least was some confusion regarding this issue and I sought clarification here. And I don't want to muck this deal up when I go for my buyback. I have been storing this car for a year now, paying liability insurance, etc. I want it gone ASAP.

They are being extra cautious with New York, as they are concerned that many of the cars there went through chop shops, have fake VINS, or are stolen.

(Only kidding)

Turned in my 2013 Beetle today. The whole process took less than 15 minutes to complete. Very easy and professionally handled. My car was in excellent condition, but they could have cared less. The guy told me that someone turned in a heavily hail damaged car yesterday and it didn't impact the buyback value. His lucky day! I got back $500 more than the website estimated. I'm sure the discrepancy is due to the milage being 34,997 and not breaking the 35,000 mile threshold used in the estimate.

Great experience the whole way. They couldn't have handled it any better for me.:)

Mine was turned in about two hours ago. I arrived 1/2 an hour early and they did not make me wait. I was done before the appointment was scheduled to start. All went well. Mine was essentially perfect with Monster Mats and trailer hitch/wiring left in place. It did smell of Fabreeze.....since I'd loaded the car with many dryer sheets in a (successful) bid to keep rodents from chewing the wires or making a nest.

My written offer was for $21.9K. That would have been the correct amount for a Nov turn in, but the delay in things forced me to 12/2...which had the happy side effect of increasing my buyback by $300 or so (car was not being driven, so I just made it into the next bracket of miles). To answer a question I had prior to my buy-back, the check they prepared and gave me was correct (at the higher amount). They are clearly using the "current mileage" figure entered when scheduling the appointment.

Did you offer 2 keyfobs?
If you offered 1 did they ask for the other?
Did they look in the trunk?

I brought both fobs. They didn't even drive it, nor did they look in the trunk. The rep had me back it off the car hauler. Got my chase email 29 hours after appt, and got my money (non chase bank) within 10 hrs.

Turned mine in today. The amount was exactly what was in the offer. Same routine as others, pictures of the outside and running. The guy did not look or care about anything else on the car. It has been two hours, and still have not received the email receipt from VW yet.

I went to the DMV several days ago to correct an address issue on the registration on mine to be safe. Wasn't needed, they only were concerned with the title.

When I walked into the dealer, I was 20 minutes early and the claims guy was surprised. Apparently the three appointments he has had so far today, the people have been late. As up to an hour late with no notification. He never said what there excuse was though.

I sold mine back today and was the first in our state, according to the specialist. The strange thing was I saw no ambassador or anyone helping the specialist. It took 20 minutes and was for the amount of the offer. Email receipt received right after he submitted the document online. Now the wait begins for the Chase email.

I got a reminder email today for an appointment that is still 12 days out. Well, that's weird. Maybe they are having trouble with noshows for some reason? Perhaps the screwups because of the timezone issues that they have hopefully corrected by now? Who knows.

The date/time in the email was what I expected it to be..

Got my reminder today (5 days away). The appointment time was an hour later than the final original appointment time. Guess I'll just show up an hour or two earlier than the last email stated to be sure. Still hoping the predicted snow storm for the buyback day doesn't get here (I'm 160 miles from dealership)

Why are you kidding? I've lived in NYC for 30 years. It's true. The reason I feel safe with my Passat parked on a South Bronx street in a not so nice area is because the bolt pattern on the wheels won't fit a Maxima or an Accord.

A few years ago in Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island:: all the Maximas were getting headlights ripped out in plain daylight. Infinitis, Acuras and Nissans would be found in the morning on milk crates with the sport wheels gone.

There are still a lot of "chop shops" around even after the crackdown in the mid 2000s. They are legitimate businesses (body shops) with a "backend illegal business."

I can drive 3 miles from here and get any part I need at rock bottom prices from "parts dealers." It's still quite prevalent.

Turned mine in today. First one at the dealership, so there was a learning curve for those involved. They weren't too clear on EFT, called VW and got the information about the future email.

All I received during the process was an email stating the mileage and the buyback amount, no other receipt. At least I have a record of my Lyft ride home.

As stated earlier I sold my car back on 12/1 @ 1030. I received my receipt immediately after the transaction was closed out. I received my Chase email yesterday (12/2) @ 1930.

What is the process for when your offer is approved and you select a buyback date? Can you search multiple dealers and compare dates?

Returned the car Thursday December 1st. Did not get an email as a receipt, I was told it would show up within 24 hours. A day went by and I called the VW Claims line, they said they would escalate to the technical group for resolution and I would hear back in "two or thee business days". I called the TDI trade in guy at the dealer at 2:00 yesterday and he had no idea what the problem was, he insists he did everything right. He was going to get ahold of whoever he needed to and call me back, didn't hear from him. I have no receipt and no EFT email either.

Our turn in was Thursday afternoon. I arrived a half hour before and waited for the wife who was bringing the TDI. When she arrived a couple of salesmen greeted her before I could get over to her. This whole buyback process has annoyed her and the salesmen just finished it for her.

After being directed to the settlement specialist we were greeted by name and ushered to an office to do the paperwork. I had brought copies of everything on the checklist and we went over the items. The specialist wanted us to verify that the documents he had were the same as ours and the amount of the check was also the same. While we were doing that he went out and took his pictures moved the car and verified the mileage.

When he returned we completed the odometer statement and wrapped it all up. He wanted us to take a last look through the car, so we went over it one last time where I took a few pictures. The process took 22 minutes according to the clock in the car. Talking with the specialist he told us he was working at one Audi and 2 VW dealerships. We chatted about cars and he asked what are plans were regarding a replacement. The car has already been replaced but the ambassador had called last week and the wife wanted to go over and speak with him. I took this opportunity to look at the Alltracks and other cars on their lot. What I did notice was they had a few CPO Jettas there that could be had for less than our settlement check.

After lunch we deposited the check and our bank said the funds would be available the next day. Oh and doing some Christmas shopping cheered her up.:)

In addition to my TDI (daily driver), I also own a 2015 Ford F150, supercrew. The new style, aluminum. About 4 months ago, I walked out of the house one morning to discover that someone had stolen the hood and the left front quarterpanel (light assembly). They did this between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., sitting in my driveway, with me at home.
The parts were less than $1,000, but labor (mostly paint matching) drove the total cost to $2,300 (insurance paid). The amazing thing to me, two people (minimum) risked their lives for parts that are less than $1,000. I am a gun owner, and a very good shot. And yes, I would have shot them dead on the spot. And they risked their lives for less than $1,000 ????

I am saying this jokingly but man sure hope this has nothing to do with the registration and plates not being current. :D I don't trust them completely surprise surprise and it ain't over til it's over.
I might opt for a check. Sounds like banks are clearing them in 24h and I am with Chase already anyway.
