Has anyone elected the paper check? If so was it there waiting for you? This ETF thing seems like it for the birds.

Same here... got a call from the dealer... apparently when all is buttoned up at the turn-in, they're supposed to FedEx all the documents to VW. They're then supposed to enter the FedEx tracking number into their side of the claims site, and THAT is the event that triggers the EFT email from Chase. Apparently this never happened on Friday!
Who is supposed to FedEx the documents and who is supposed to enter the tracking number? Dealer, the claim specialist or the Ambassador?

What phone number are you using to reach Claims support?

I try the1-844-98-CLAIM and get absolutely nowhere.

I remember my claims specialist (not the dealership) was the one that had to Fedex something off to VW. She spent quite a bit of time trying to get a fedex number/ mailer from the dealership but the dealer did not come up with one. She was driving off to an actual Fedex place to send my stuff off when I left. So, clearly that should have been in place at the dealership for the buyback specialist and she should not have had to hunt down a Fedex location to send the stuff off herself!

I wish VW was more like my small town Chrysler dealership. Three months ago I found the car I wanted to buy after the buyback. I explained the situation, and we worked out a deal that I would pay a $1000 down payment to hold it with a contract stating that, and they put it inside with a car cover on it. Just the other day I told them that I will turn my Jetta in on the 7th, but might not get my money for 3 or 4 days. They just come in and write the personal check for the balance, and they wouldn't send it in until I said to.

I called that number, did not select any options and was on hold for probably ten-fifteen minutes. The person I got didn't know much but did ask a supervisor. I would take the response I was given with a huge chunk of salt...

i think it is crazy that we have to wait 3-4 days to get the money...you drop a car and ou are with no car and no money for 3-4 days...not everyone here has the money to buy a car BEFORE the turn in date, nor to stay 3-4 days without a car waiting for the money...

absolutely unbelievable

What is "uncomfortable" is when you have sold your car back to VW, four days have passed and you have no money, no car to drive and no idea when you will have either!
No Car, Keys, Title, Registration, SIGNATURES,

UNTIL

Check in hand
check in hand
check in hand

Endorse it to your bank acct at he dealership
drive to bank
deposit

if lost or stolen ~~ it is replaceable.

... I should have the EFT email by tomorrow AM. It still completely screws my new car purchase scheduled for Nov 30th (to get a bunch of incentives before the month ends), because now the funds will not be cleared in time.
Virg, all is not lost.

If you have a killer deal lined up, I suggest you go about your next vehicle purchase as if you have cash in your pocket.

Only at the end, after all the numbers are on paper and you're happy with the deal, explain your situation. Be prepared to write a post dated check, or let them run your credit as a guarantee. You may have to leave the car with them.

On the other hand, December incentives are only days away -- it may be worth a roll of the dice?

I can not get a car without the cash in hand.
I CAN take out a short (7-10 day) loan with a good FICO
.... and then I own a car with a lien on it.
.... then I have to go back to the MVA to get a clean title on the new ride.

..... on the other hand ~~~ many (most?) new car dealers would take your freshly endorsed vw CHECK to pay for a new Golf,, Camry, Accord, Civic, Passat, RAV4, etc. ~~ on the spot. :D

The buyback calculator was spot on at 13825

Would you please point me to this buyback calculator? I've seen reference to several and would like to check the VW estimate with an accurate calculator given my current mileage.

VW should have added another $500 gift card to the buyback. I would use that gift card on a rental car 3+ days waiting for the EFT to drop. I haven't choose a buyback date yet because I'm waiting on my factory order Subaru. At the earliest I hope to have the Subie arrive early January. By then I hope VW/Claims Specialists/Chase have things ironed out to NOT go over the 3 business days of EFT processing. I wish there was a way to wire the money on the spot when turning in the TDI. In that way, as soon as I leave VW on to the Subaru dealership to pay them full in cash. Nothing will ever be that smooth and easy.....Just keep dreamin huh

.... we will go paper check at the time of my buy back

.... 100 % sure will have no problem with the mileage factor.

.... most likely will have new car ride (purchase) lined up well in advance.

.... drive it to dealership ~~ dump it ~~ get check ~~ have them deliver me to my choice of new car dealer (if local).

.... will try to keep one keyfob in my pocket ~~ but will surrender it if there is a problem

Almost the same situation for me too. Jan/Feb likely for my car to come. I have the offer letter, just waiting to submit.

This thread is nearly as entertaining as it is informative.

My only question so far is how are people getting home if they're going to the turn-in by themselves? I may ask to use the free shuttle...

Ask the sales staff for a test drive and hop out when you get close to destination. It's the least they can do for you. Lol

I decided the evening prior to drop off my older car and park it by the dealership. I will then bring my Golf the next day, turn it in, and take my parked car back to work since my drop off time is 11:00AM.

If I did not have a spare car then I would use Uber

Uber isn't available everywhere.
I am probably going to either have my hubby drive me in my MIL's car...
Or use the free tow service...
Or see if my mom will let me borrow her Subaru for a week or so until the funds clear and I make a deal for a new car.
Or possibly a combination of these.
Lucky for me, my turn-in dealer is very close to me. On a good day, I could probably walk home. Too bad I never have any good days at this age.

I would submit asap. Once they reply you will see the range of dates and can delay at that point choosing one.

That way you won't get caught up in the delays of getting your accepted offer approved.

In Florida they hold titles electronically, anyone know what I need to do as claims just refused my paper that the dealership provided me?

3 days until we get paid? Is this listed anywhere in the legal documents? Common, sounds like they just keep throwing dates around without any logic behind it. Does anyone know how many folks on this forum actually received their $ already?

Yes, the first few folks who submitted Wednesday did get their EFT transfer on Thanksgiving day if I recall the earlier posts.

I do think the 3 days is just tossed out there to pacify folks...

Just spoke with my dealership "Ambassador" (not the third party settlement specialist) and she said that my FedEx number was entered on Friday. She said in fact NOTHING further in the process (her/ the dealerships part) can happen until that is entered. So, it appears everything in my case was completed and the delay is just the normal EFT delay from the bank I guess...

Would be fun if they have a GTI...or R...

Uber would be an option for me. I just didn't want to pay for it...maybe a sales person will take pity on me, need a run for coffee, and be willing to go for the test drive option

No, all Florida vehicle titles, have been electronic since 2005. Simply go to this web address and follow the steps to get a paper title.
