Buy through local dealer or dealer with the car?

I'm ready to sign on the dotted line for a 2012 JSW. The car I want is a manual at a dealer about 50 miles away. The only manual in the state right now. Should I go there to purchase it or work through my local dealer that's three miles away?

Just buy it from your local dealer....Dealerships trade stock all the time.

Unless there are reasons you would rather not, I'd deal with the local dealer.

Your local dealer may not be able to get the car you want from the dealer that has it.

Buying locally has no advantages to buying from other dealers. If you have warranty issues, any dealer can do the warranty work.

But you will have to pay 50 bucks every time you bring the car into a dealership you did not buy it from.

I must admit I'm not loyal to my local dealer. Simply put, if he offers me the best deal I'm there. If not, I go elsewhere.

I think someone is taking you for a ride.

My take is this:

I went to the dealer that I dealt with for my MkVI TDI sedan because I enjoyed working with them. When I went for the JSW I went to the same dealer, worked with the same guy and he secured the vehicle I wanted from another dealer.

I didn't know this at the time but after running the VIN of the JSW, the vehicle I was getting was traded twice before I got it. My trade being the third. There were 212 miles on the car when I took delivery but that didn't really bother me - however it would be nice to know how it was driven for those trades. What bothered me more was the damage the vehicle had - non of which was caused by my dealer. Unfortunately it was dark and rainy and my sales guy missed it. To his credit it was hard to miss the messed up bumper (underneath the lip near the belly pan). The left wheel was also badly curbed and there was a hole through the hatch for the license plate (I found that by chance).

My dealer took care of everything and did a very nice job - was just without my car for awhile. I should add that the dealer detail guy found all the issues, minus hole in rear hatch) and brought it to our attention. This was after I signed papers - I probably could have walked, and maybe should have walked - but didn't. I was disappointed at first but my sales guy and the sales manager told me they would do their best to resolve the issues and they did.

If I was to do it again I would ask to go with my sales guy - he can drive the vehicle and I would help with inspection making sure to look under the vehicle. Dark and rainy doesn't help but perhaps two sets of eyes would. You could also ask for the VIN of the vehicle you are interested in and run it through google to see if and how many times it has been traded (google might not tell you everything).

Just my thoughts.

Get a quote from the dealer with the car you want. Buy from the cheaper location.

Warranty work can be done at any dealer, for zero charge to you. If you were charged $50, you were taken.

That makes no sense. I have had all my "warranty" repairs (10K inspections, seem to be billed as that) at two different dealers from where I purchased the vehicle and there is no $50 charge.

Unless I'm unclear what you are referring to?

The local dealer will do all warranty work (at no charge) but they will be less likely to go the extra mile if you didn't buy from them.

Such as provide you a car if you need one.

New country Audi and Volkswagen in Greenwich, CT has this policy for my Audi and Volkswagen. They will charge you 50 bucks every time you bring the car in for warranty repairs, if you did not buy it from them.

I only know one way to say this. You would be a fool for paying it.

I located mine on the Internet and purchased from a dealer 75 miles away. I've had it serviced at my local dealer since new. No charges, no issues. Buy it locally if it's convenient, or if they have or can order the one you want, or purchase elsewhere. I would not go to a dealership that even hinted at charging for warentee or covered maintence.

I take my 2011 Golf to another dealer as the one I bought mine from Charlotte VW has a lousy service dept and personel especially the service manager. Made numerous complaints to VW corp hq and their take is they back the dealer. Avoid this dealership.

Sure. It's all a generalization with exceptions not being all that out of the norm.

I bought my VW from Chris @ VW of Langhorne as many TDIers on here have. I live in MO and that dealership is in the Philly metro area. I went to my local dealers, they couldn't match the price within $2000 of the deal I got there. I flew out and drove it 950 miles back.
My dealer here in STL area services my car without issue or additional charges.
Personally, I'd go with the best deal you can and if a dealer threatens to charge for warranty work report them to VWoA.

That is BS and would be a reason I would never buy a car from them, I bought my car from Chris at langhorne and have had it serviced there bc I figure I will buy another one down the line from him and it is good will, but when my free service ends I will more than likely find a guru to work on it.
