Cfried---i remember seeing a couple of these in colombia a few yrs. ago and when this thread started i tried to figure out what it was. thanks for posting, your picture actually makes the "back end" look better than it does in person. actually makes the Aztec look respectable, terrible looking vehicle.
Yes, I remember a more V-shaped rear end, too - which makes this one pleasing to the eye.

Maybe we think about the Rodius, which sold like hotcake here:

  • 2005: 98
  • 2006: 174
  • 2007: 59 units sold ....
somewhere there must be a ghastly looking scrapyard with new Rodii ...

Now I found it: The Kyron

At least they have a very recognisable family design and a consistent design language which screams 'OMG !'

I actually liked my avalance when I could afford to put gas in it.
I still enjoy mine. Having the Jetta as a DD makes me appreciate the Avalanche even more.

I remember when the AV was first released. I would have added it to the "butt-ugly" car/truck list also. However, I very much realized what a fantastic idea it was.

Now if there were only a diesel version...

I didn't like the body clading when it first came out but after having it and getting into a few brushed with things like brick walls and small trees, I realized that the clading was great. I know that in at least two circumstances, I would have had to replace a right front clip, fog light, and probably head light if it would have been brick verus sheet metal. The other great part with the clading was the steps built into the side of the back bumper. Made it much easier to climb in and out of the back.

I think a few guys have swapped Duramax engines into Avalanches. That would be a nice combo!:D

I could go for that! It was at a point where I was hauling the kids to school every morning and then driving back to work. About a 40 mile trip from home to office. I went through a tank of fuel a week. I could make the same trip in the beetle and still burn through a tank a week, but it was a 14 gallon tank of diesel versus a 30+ gallon tank of regular, and diesel was usually cheaper in those years.

The Duramax would get better mileage than the gasser too!!! But I'm sure the TDI Beetle would still be close to double or so...

I agree, see one of my earlier posts in this thread, but PLEASE resize your photo so it fits on one screen.

Thanks!

See, there we differ,
I found the Nissan Cube always to be a striking example of an industrial design like a T4 or T5.:)

As an appliance I like it far more than a Civic or a Corolla. But I agree I won't drool over it.

There's nothing wrong with the Ami 6. And they were one of the best riding cars of the era. That's like saying the DS was ugly.

I like the AMI8 actually since it comes with a pretty redhead on the hood!

And then for the low rider crowd here: The slammed AMI 6:

If we're talking about French cars... I'll go with the Renault 4. No cohesion to the design whatsoever, and it looks like they just gave up. I mean, the Ami 6 was at least trying for something.

We're talking Butt Ugly Cars of the WORLD! Not just France.

The French have their butt uglies. But to be fair, they also have some of the best.

Why does anyone think that the R4 is any more or less inspired than a Jetta Wagon? It's simple, functional, and worked remarkably well. It looks dated because it's old.

Showing the R4 as ugly to me is like showing an original Beetle as ugly.

What will we all think of the Hyundai Sonata in 40 years?

Feast your eyes on this beauty: From Chasing Classic Cars TV fame and found in the Hartung collection in Illinois.

I think the hyundais are ugly now! I like the simple lines of the Teutonic designs much better.
