the hex part is like new but it broke off the threaded part. I think someone before me put too much pressure and broke the main body. The hex part and the plug prong just turns and I can wiggle it. I wonder if there is a way to get it out with out removing the head
you can also try and run the engine and blow it out, I've done it on sprinter engines, but it has to be loose on the threads, just be careful that you don't have it fly out and damage something else around the car , like the other people, of course it will have to be helicoiled. and thats a whole other process.
Sorry to hear that, yeah, you have to drill very carefully but you really don't have to drill the outer metal part as much as the inner core, which is kind of soft. The small easy out will sink right down into the center once the guts are out of the way.
Somewhere I ran across the one I had to remove that way but I'm sure I probably tossed it. Otherwise I would post up a pic for you to see.
Why don't you post up a pic of what you have right now. Is there any way to get the piece of the bit out of the GP? I would think that with a very thin screw driver you might be able to pry it loose and pull it out.
The only reason I suggest this is because at this point pulling the head does little to help you out with your situation other than give you a mobile cylinder head to take to the machine shop.
what I didn't when this happened to me on my ALH is that I pulled the injector and rotated the motor to where the valves where closed and pressurized the cylinder with an aircompressor. from there I drilled into the glow plug and used an easy out to extract it. when I used a tap to clean up the threads I made sure that I dipped the tap in grease so the grease would catch the contaminants as it was used.
