Brm exhaust smell in cab

Hi there new here I just picked up a 06 Jetta Brm 320xxxkm
Noticed exhaust smell in cab at the light. Currently cold out so windows are up heater is on. Had the vehicular in the air in my garage on jack stands noticed a bit of soot on the heat shield above the flex pipe. Got my wife to start car cold while up as it smokes just a bit on start up and noticed smoke up by the turbo area. While running had my hand around turbo area and well as flex pipe dident feel much. Possible v band clamp leaking? Inspected the egr system did not see sooting or leaking from diversion valve or anything. Just wondering if anyone had this issue with exhaust smell in cab

I have been chasing an exhaust odor in the cabin for a while now. At city or highway speeds, windows cannot even be slightly open as there is a strong exhaust odor enters the car. Also getting an exhaust smell with the AC on (seems recirc on/off doesn't make much of a difference), but not as bad...

Thanks! I have look at it extensively I guess I’ll have to smoke test it or attempt to delete the egr I guess
