BRM A/C codes

Ok guys, bear with me, I'm sure there are other posts covering this topic, but tapatalk shows zero responses to any searches on TDIclub. I'm stuck with just my phone this evening for Internet access

A few months ago I bought a BRM for $650 not running out of a guys driveway. It's come a long way, but today I finally had time to throw the scan tool (modus ultra, I don't have a CAN VCDS cable) on in search of a cause for the ESP light being steady on. The A/C doesn't work either but it wasn't my mission today.

So a quick check showed I believe an 01314 in the brake module, for active engine code fault. The engine ECM showed 05697 for check A/C, airco module then showed 00402 and 00819. So... Apparently my Ac is actually causing the ESP light from the way it sounds. Is that feasible?

So, my a/c question is, what the heck is a 00402?? Auxiliary heater element z35 no signal. The 819 is pressure switch circuit fault, I'll check the wiring over when I get a chance but I am way lost on the aux heater thing.

Anyone have any insight?

00402 is for your 12v 1000w aux heater for cabin heat. Not ESP related. 00819 is also an AC code not related to ESP. 01314 is a ECM power fault code. Check your grounds under the air filter/intake box. 01314 is your main issue. Am i some kind of wizard? No. I simply googled the codes you gave in ROSS TECH. Check your main grounding points and reset faults. Most importantly is get a VCDS from ross tech and post scan in this forum. Gurus from far and wide will then tell you the best next move.

I googled them as well, 819 info was easy, couldn't find an exact explanation of the 402. I have the ability to scan all modules, but can't copy and paste the info on here. I have all faults that exist on the car written down.

I did all of the grounds a month ago, it didn't change any of the symptoms I currently have.

Given you location, my suggestions in this order:
1. Purchase VCDS.
2. Purchase a Bentley's
3. While you are awaiting their delivery, clean the corrosion in:
A. Every ground connection in the engine space (under the air box, battery to chassis, chassis to engine, plenum box, inside the foot wells).
B. The fuse and wire connections on the exterior front end of the engine bay fuse/relay box (take photos before you start to ensure to get it back the way it was).

Assuming that is part, if not all your problem, you may find that some coding was lost. Hopefully not.

On edit: Seeing your prior post, I know it makes no sense, but take it from my experience, don't worry about resolving the individual codes and issues until you are certain the ground and fuse connection points are spotlessly clean and your battery is fully charged and conductance test good.

PS. As you start working on this car, take a photo of the fuse box for future reference.

Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it, I am back on a PC, so quite a bit easier to respond.

I have a CAN vcds ordered, I can access all systems with the snapon Modis as well, but it appears a VCDS copy/paste is more desired here. I have a Bentley book, and I've definitely found a few odd ball shortcomings in the wiring diagrams. (example, trace the diagram for an 05.5 TDI and tell me where starter solenoid "key" power comes from, I learned something interesting...), but I honestly haven't read the book cover to cover. I deal with service manuals all day and work and I have motivational issues with my own stuff.

I cleaned ALL powers and grounds, including the one under the wiper cowl a month ago, sadly it didn't fix any of my issues I had. I have a pressure switch on order for the A/C as the wiring checked out, but I suspect I have a two fold problem since my compressor clutch is broken away (assuming compressor is totally locked up), I have a compressor coming as well (OEM low mile used for $50, I'll give it a go)

The ESP light is the thing that baffles me, maybe listing current codes a different way will lead one of the more experienced members to have a silver bullet for repair, I hope so at least lol.

Oh, and your last part... Battery is good on conductance (Midtronics) and a traditional load tester, alternator pulley is new, ripple voltage is non-existent.

My memory is that the ESP will turn off and the ESP light illuminate when 1 or more of the needed inputs are not present. Ie. steering angle sensor, ABS signals, etc. The brake module maybe the cause of the ESP issue.

Do all the other HVAC components work (ie, blend/outlet/temp doors, aux. heater) work? If so, it may separate issues as you suspect. VCDS should help. You will enjoy it.

Again, Double check all the grounds in your engine space and under the w. wiper tray. Specifically, the chassis ground under the air filter box, the battery to chassis, the chassis to transmission & the various other smaller ones. While you are at it, clean all the fuses & connections on the front side of the relay/fuse box in the engine bay outboard of the air filter box (take a photo for reference sake of this & your fuse boxes before you disconnect anything). Good luck with it. Search this subject on this sub-forum & you will find others posts for specifics.

Re-cleaned all grounds for the third time today, no change...

Swapped a new G65 (OEM) sensor on, still had 00819... Swapped a known good G65 in, AC now works, ac code gone and ESP light is now out.

SO! For all in doubt, a ground is NOT necessarily the cause of an ESP light and an AC fault WILL cause the ESP light...
