I just bought a 2011 jetti TDI DSG and have about 400 miles on the clock. I ran across this Website a last week and saw all the posts regarding the break in period for new TDIs. I must say that this Website is awesome and very helpful.

I wanted to know if I'm on the right track for break in.....

1. So far I have done 90% highway miles. When I'm on the highway i run between 2000-2400 rpms and once a day, in drive mode, take it up to 3200 for a few seconds then back down to 2200.

I have not used the S and M Mode...

Is this a good start? When can I use the S/M Mode after 500/1000 miles.

Any inforamtion that you can provide for better Fuel Economy will be greatly appreacated.

Thanks....

I would read through this.

Actually for break in you might find you need to use S mode as you want the car shifting at 3,000RPM when engine is warmed up. With the DSG in Drive you can try to force it by putting your foot down a little more but I don't have any experience with that trans.

As for fuel economy, during break-in you don't want to be going for full fuel economy as you want to get into boost to help seat the rings.

Definitely have a look through the above break-in article.

Have fun and enjoy your new car!

I was looking at the thread over the weekend, seems to be very good knowledge with these cars.

I was thinking the same thing..... to use the S mode for city driving up to 3800rpms. For highway, stay between 1800-2400 then down shift to 5th or 4th to get to 3800 then let go and drift to back to 1800-2400.

Are there any threads for break in for the 2011 Jetti TDU with DSG?

DRIVBIWIRI Thread seems to be directed to the Stick verses the Autos.

How can the DSG shift at 2500-3000 with the DSG Transmission? or do I use the M Mode or S Mode?

I would put in S mode and see what it will do.

Some might disagree with me but I don't think it is necessary to take the engine to 3800RPM all the time. I am still breaking in - I have 1800 miles on my car and I usually shift around 2800-3000RPM when driving around town and with a warm engine. I then occasionally put the engine under load and rev it higher - close to redline - but that is because I am past that initial 1000 miles. When I was in the initial 1000 mile period I didn't do every shift at 3800RPM - most were at 3000 or so - but occasionally had fun.:)

I also think that you seat the rings better when accelerating hard to 3800RPM (I never used full throttle for first 1000 miles - just visualized 3/4 throttle - still accelerated to 3800RPM quick enough) to generate good amounts of boost - shift and then same thing. I never just sat with it at 3800RPM.

Now, if you are downshifting into 4th on the highway and accelerating to 3800RPM then coasting down that is pretty good - just watch for the cops. I never really had an opportunity to do that - too much traffic where I am. Now I just use freeway onramps for fun acceleration and taking it through the RPM range.

I have the DSG trans in my new Jetta and I use a combination of sport and Manual mode when driving around town. I find the regular drive mode to cause shift shuddering and other issues.

I have no issues with the DSG, and while I don't beat on the car, I do put my foot in it quite a bit to get things run in well.

I make sure I vary my RPMs and avoid long periods of constant RPM.

I have found S mode to be pretty good for break in around here. Lots of hills causing the downshift and putting a load on the motor.
