Hey all,

Just bought another TDI, an Automatic 2014 Passat (my 4th TDI - 2 different mk4s and a mk6, all jettas). This one however, is from the original owner, serviced at a dealership, but has 218k miles. It’s a great deal, which is why I bought it, but what should I look out for soon? I assume timing belt 240k since it should be replaced at 120k, but other than that, I’m seeing a lot of different answers as what to see above 200k miles.

He also put the fear of god into me when he mentioned he was looking at buying a disaster prevention kit for the HPFP, which I know is a high dollar fix if it fails. Should I buy one to his advice?

I’m planning on all fluids, tires and alignment, and happy to be back in the TDI Owners Club.

Thanks in advance!

I can also provide a list of what was serviced and when, just don’t have the paperwork in front of me at the moment.

There are just too many to list....
These are all common CKRA issues:

injectors

turbochargers

valve covers

camshaft seals

oil filter housings

SCR system problems (sensors, pump, lines, heaters, injectors... all of it)

heater cores

Common NMS issues:

control arm compliance bushings

HVAC motors

rear calipers

front rotors

I'd suspect, by now, some or maybe even all of these have been messed with by now.

From @oilhammer list: on my 166k mile CKRA, things that have been done or need to be done:

injectors -twice, #1 and #4

valve covers -leaking, have parts, no time yet.

camshaft seals -maybe? I have to sort out the valve cover first and see if oil seepage stops

oil filter housings -amazingly, so far so good 🤞

SCR system problems (sensors, pump, lines, heaters, injectors... all of it) -only warned of no start twice

heater cores -done once, wasn't really that clogged

Common NMS issues:

control arm compliance bushings -really need to do, have parts, still no time

HVAC motors

rear calipers

front rotors -done

I'll add DMF to the list, but mine is still ok for now.

Yeah, I was trying to just list CKRA/NMS specific items. All the 02E DSGs can suffer a DMF or M-unit failure. Seems the QC on the M-units tanked after about 2010, because I swear I've done FAR more newer ones than I ever did older ones, and many of the older cars are still on the road. I did a 2014 GTI's M-unit when it only had 53k miles on it!
