Poet,

Getting to the station and refueling everyone would be an interesting and perhaps media attracting event, but I would prefer to be drinking beer or watching someone botch a timing belt job (or both).

If we can get Burke to come to us and deliver (like the mid michigan fest), it would be great publicity and we can do something other than wait in line. I'm interested to see what they say!

the problem with biodiesel delivery is one of demand. if we did something along these lines, we'd have to ensure that burke was not looking to meet a specific amount of sales. however, if burke is willing it may be possible to get a truck with both b100 and ulsd on hand. i'm quite certain everyone present would be interested in ulsd, where the demand for bio might be lower.

we're still working out the particulars, but i agree that media attention is never a bad thing.

I wish we could get the attention of someone in VWAG or VWOA who wants to help us promote "dieselmania" in the USA and the VW TDI as the #1 choice of informed consumers - what will US fuel prices be like in September - and why do these guys love their TDI cars? Don't enquiring minds want to know?

They could come to the fest, get some media attention and tout the effectiveness of their products and marketing strategy for the next 3-5 years. VW could line up a couple of fuel suppliers and talk it all up while buying us a beer and a tank of fuel for helping the cause.

Does VW expect to sell a small quantity of lowline product to cheap old misers or do they want to appeal to performance concious car fans who get a kick out of laughing all the way to the gas station? I may be old, but I'm not a white-knuckled miser with two wheels in the gutter all the time...I own the left lane in a diesel, dammit.

Marketing is such fun, too. Has anyone ever invited VW to a fest before? Have they actually declined because they don't call the shots? Maybe we could let them call a few of the shots as long as they were nice about it and brought over the TDI-R for a bit of drooling? How far is Bremen from Stuttgart? What's the beer like in Stuttgart? Can't suck.

Well? Germans have airplanes and they like cars and beer...this might be fun...who speaks German and can get in front of these guys over there? BeetleGo?

Who is gonna stop me from making the call to VWAG?

Remember, we didn't think we could get Biodiesel to the pump 2 summers ago and now I fill up all the time. Why not?

Bernd Pischetsrieder...beer...TDI-R...big splash

I'm all worked up now, but I have to work tomorrow. Guten Nacht.

Betzel,

I'm certainly up for making some local-language inquiries mit der Faterland, but we have to remember that VWoA is frightened of joe-consumer thinking that he can just dump some cooking oil in the tank and be runnin' on that thar biodeezel stuff. I honestly do not believe VWoA is going to bite.

Whether VW would be willing to show some form of support for the fest itself is another thing.

BG,

Understood; we would have to pretend to be normal and play along, but it was a VW - ULSD Kum Ba Ya thought...

I was trying to play the whole thing up, but who do we call over there in der Faterland?

I am not a Bostonian, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

No, wait, I mean I did visit Boston last summer. I would recommend one of the many bus tours around the city. In a matter of a couple of hours you can see countless landmarks around town. The bus drivers have lots of information and you can get off and on the bus at any stop to take a closer look.

I visited Boston with a bunch of guys to see a baseball game. None of us was well informed about what to do and see in town. We were only concerned with where the beer was. The bus tour was a fantastic way of seeing more culture and history than I could have imagined. My wife was speechless when I told her about visiting Old Iron Sides & Faneuil Hall Marketplace, learning the story of Bunker Hill and having lunch in the oldest restaurant in the USA, The Union Oyster House. We took pictures in the booth where JFK had breakfast every Sunday.

Trust me, for the group of guys I was with, this was a very cultural vacation. We discovered a side of Boston that we would have missed otherwise.

What if the weather is not cooperating?

Try Science Museum. It is in Cambridge, has its own parking, and it is on MBTA Green Line.

My family and I visit science museum several times a year. It is a lot of fun in there.

Near the top of the list should probably be Lexington Green, Battle Road and Concord/the Old North Bridge.... where it all began 229 years and 4 days ago (as of this writing). And while out Concord way, a stop at Walden Pond would be another thing to do. All that would be about 35 minutes up 128 and a few more minutes west out Rt 2 to Concord.

Poet, any plans for a Boston Harbor "Fest Cruise" one of the nights? That would be a great activity for all attendees.

it's certainly possible... but really, around boston is the last place i think i'd want to take a large caravan of out-of-staters. two reasons:

a) caravans don't work in any sort of traffic, someone always gets lost or left behind at a stoplight or such
b) driving in boston is not what i'd call "fun"

but that's just my opinion. i'm quite certain there will be many differing opinions on that one.

I think you might have misunderstood (or I misunderstood your answer)

I meant a Harbor Cruise. On a boat... with beverages :)

People could get to the wharf by T.
