Bona\'s Green TDI

This is my ride:Beige leather, CD changer, sunroof, monsoon, heated seats (Highly recommended), Splash Guards (formerly called Mud Flaps).

This is my third Jetta ('82 diesel, '86 GLI gas, '00 TDI)

Great looking, well balanced style. The wheels are perfect for this car, and those splash guards hint of the Porsche relation.(I can't say "mud flaps" in context of this good looking car)

You are absolutely correct, A fine automobile like this should not be equipped with mud flaps. Henceforth, let it be known that while my truck has mud flaps, the Jetta has Splash Guards.

Hey Bona - Nice car! Just wondering, how would you compare your TDI with your former diesel and gas Jettas?

I'm torn between the TDI and VR6. Hoping for Atlantic Blue and Beige...

Re: Bona\'s Green TDI

I love my TDI. My old diesel was OK once you got it going but it did not have much acceleration, it vibrated, the engine noise was very loud, it smoked, etc... It was good if you wanted mileage but not much fun to drive. When I got it I had been driving a '67 bug with no heat and no windshield wiper fluid so it was pretty nice at the time. I didn't realize how loud it was until I started driving other cars.

My '86 jetta was a nice car and still is. I thought I was going to keep it but I could use the space in the driveway so I need to sell it this spring. I think it has 102HP.

The TDI feels much stronger, is much quieter, The heated seats are great, it feels very solid and is alot of fun to drive. I don't have any regrets on this car at all. I don't have a long commute like some people. I fill up every two to three weeks. This alone is worth it to me. The gas station I used to go to with the cheapest gas always had a waiting line and it really annoyed me.

The VR6 is probably faster but so what. Whenever I see these I think these people just didn't do their research. If you don't plan on keeping the car then the VR6 might be easier to resell but for the long haul my guess is the TDI will be a much better car.

I don't like the cupholders that much. If you get a Jetta, remove the cupholder and take out the little plastic arm that swings. Go to Starbucks and buy a stainless steel insulated tumbler, the ones that are tapered slightly where you hold them. It fits perfectly in the cupholder. I tried the cupholder in the armrest but didn't like it. My elbow would hit it while I was shifting.

My advice, Get the TDI!

I love you car - the colour (escuse the anglisized spelling!) is perfect, it looks great! Just one question -

Is the engine audible around town at all? And on the motorway, my guess is that you wouldn't know it was a diesel - correct?? You see I have never driven a TDI, but am thinking of ordering one in from Europe, but alas I can't have a test drive.

Cheers - love the alloys too! I wish they were sold in NZ where I live. But did you see the first sunrise over the Chattams? Brilliant!
ciao,

Your car looks like mind!
I have the tan cloth, yes I should have gotten the leather. I have filled up 5 times and I am at 2.3k miles. I love the part about each time I fill-up people come around and ask me about the gas (diesel) mpg. 45.6 mpg (US) driving country not highway nor city roads. Those wheels do make the car look better and your photo shows this.

I only notice the engine noise when I am idling down the alley on the way to work. I haven't heard of any of my neighbors complaining but it is louder than a gas engine. On the highway it is not noticable.

Nice looking rig! I am currently debating with myself the purchase of a TDI. I was wondering how the heating and cooling works with the TDI powerplant?

Many Thanks!!!

I haven't used the A/C yet. Heating seems to take a while when idling in traffic. I would recommend the heated seats. If you start it and let it idle it may defrost the windsheild but doesn't really heat up the interior.
